Russian attack on Ukraine: Air defense downs 5 missiles and 24 drones
Russian forces attacked Ukraine with missiles and drones again on the night of June 12. The air defense managed to intercept all but one Iskander-M missile, according to the Commander of the Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk.
"On the night of June 12, 2024, the occupiers launched a missile and air strike on Ukraine, using both air and ground-based missiles, as well as strike UAVs," he said.
According to his data, the Russians used a total of 30 aerial attack weapons:
- 4 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles from Tu-95 MS strategic aircraft (launch area: Saratov region, Russia);
- 1 Iskander-M ballistic missile (from the territory of Crimea);
- 1 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile (from the airspace of Tambov region, Russia);
- 24 Shahed-131/136 fighter UAVs (launch area – Yeysk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Russia).
Air defense response
Anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare systems of Ukraine's Defense Forces were deployed to repel the enemy's aerial attack.
As a result of the anti-air battle, 29 aerial targets were shot down:
- 1 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missile;
- 4 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles;
- 24 Shahed-131/136 fighter UAVs.
- The air defense operated in the Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Kharkiv, and Vinnytsia regions.
Russian shelling of Ukraine
On the night of June 12, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Ukraine, using drones and missiles. A large-scale air raid alert was declared across Ukraine.
Explosions were heard in Kyiv and Odesa. At the moment, it is known that a fire broke out at an industrial facility in the Kyiv region, injuring one person.
