On December 18, Russian forces attacked a bridge near the village of Maiaky near Odesa with a drone. A drone hit a car carrying a woman and her children, according to Odesa Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kiper.
"Today, in the Odesa district, an enemy attack drone struck a civilian vehicle traveling over a bridge. The car carried a woman and three children," Kiper said.
According to him, the woman sustained severe injuries and, unfortunately, died in the ambulance. Her three children were hospitalized with bodily injuries and acute stress reactions. Medical staff are providing treatment.
Kiper emphasized that this is another cynical war crime by Russia when it targets peaceful Ukrainian civilians.
He also urged drivers to avoid the road section near the bridge by the Dniester estuary near Maiaky. The Russian army has already attacked this location three times.
Kiper warned that traffic on the Odesa-Reni highway has been temporarily suspended in both directions.
Attacks on Odesa region
On December 17, Russian forces carried out two waves of strikes on the Odesa region. As a result of the attack, a transport infrastructure facility was damaged, and a fire broke out, which was quickly extinguished by rescuers.
According to the Odesa Regional Military Administration, there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the attack.
Additionally, due to ongoing Russian strikes on energy infrastructure in the Odesa region, a state-level emergency has been declared.
This decision was made during a meeting of the commission on technogenic and ecological safety and emergencies.
