The Russian forces have effectively destroyed Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region and are trying to move forward. However, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are resisting in the southern regions, said Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Group.

"The Russians managed to destroy the city of Vovchansk, and while Ukrainian forces hold in the southern regions, the Russians are attempting to bypass them, primarily toward Lyptsi, and secondarily toward Vovchanski Khutory," Trehubov said.

He added that if the Russian troops fail to push back Ukrainian fighters, they will try to bypass them through open fields and occupy nearby settlements.

"They won’t succeed in occupying them, but the pressure is significant. Unlike Kupiansk, from which the Russians fled and cannot regain positions, here the pressure is constant, and the Russians are trying to advance," the spokesperson emphasized.

A difficult situation in Vovchansk was already reported last month. At that time, Trehubov explained how weather conditions helped the enemy advance in the city.

On January 18, it became known that Russia attempted to breach the defensive line of Vovchansk using numerical superiority.

Experts from the Institute for the Study of War also reported that Russian forces had managed to advance in the east and southeast of Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region.
