Russian aircraft violates Latvia's airspace, diplomat called on carpet
Latvia detected a violation of its airspace by a Russian aircraft on November 6, according to a comment from the Latvian Ministry of Defense to Delfi.
According to the department, the radar of the Latvian Armed Forces detected the Russian aircraft. After the airspace violation, the aircraft returned to Russian territory.
Following the incident, the Latvian National Armed Forces took necessary actions to prevent any threats to the country's security. NATO was also informed about the event.
On November 7, a diplomatic protest note was handed over to a representative of the Russian Embassy in Latvia by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Russian provocations
Russia has previously used its aircraft for provocations. For example, in early 2023, three Russian military aircraft violated Polish airspace. They were intercepted by two F-35 fighter jets of the Royal Netherlands Air Force.
Additionally, in August of this year, American air defense systems detected four Russian military aircraft near Alaska.
