Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of November 20

Ukrainian soldiers continue to advance on two fronts, repelling Russian attacks near Maryinka and launching two strikes on areas with concentrations of enemy personnel, according to the data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
During the past day, there were 54 combat engagements. The enemy conducted 3 airstrikes and launched 12 rocket artillery attacks on the positions of our troops and civilian areas.
As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have suffered destruction and damage.
Frontline situation
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains difficult.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains unchanged, with no significant changes. There are no signs of the formation of offensive groups. Identified units of the Armed Forces of Belarus are performing tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the adversary maintains military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage-reconnaissance activities, carries out shelling of populated areas from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border of Ukraine.
The enemy conducted aerial strikes in the areas of the populated localities Kostobobriv in the Chernihiv region and Seredyna Buda in the Sumy region.
Approximately 20 populated localities, including Tymonovychi, Karpovychi, Hremiach in Chernihiv region; Veselivka, Kostiantynivka, Volfyne, Khodyne in Sumy region; Chervona Zoria, Pletenivka, Zemlianky, Budarky in Kharkiv region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy conducted assault actions in the areas of Synkivka and east of Petropavlivka in the Kharkiv region, where Defense Forces repelled 10 attacks. More than 10 populated localities, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Ivanivka, Berestove in Kharkiv region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy did not engage in offensive (assault) actions. They delivered aviation strikes in the areas of Serebrianske Forestry in the Luhansk region and Yampolivka in the Donetsk region. About 10 settlements, including Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Serebrianka, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, and Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault actions in the areas of Klischiivka, Andriivka, and east of the Southern Donetsk region, where our forces repelled 19 attacks. More than 10 populated localities, including Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Klischiivka, Andriivka in the Donetsk region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault actions east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, and Avdiivka in the Donetsk region, where the Defense Forces repelled 7 attacks. Artillery and mortar fire affected more than 15 populated localities, including Oleksandropil, Keramik, Avdiivka, Severne, Tonenke, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault actions in the areas of Maryinka, Pobeda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where Ukrainian defenders repelled 10 attacks. Under artillery and mortar fire, approximately 10 populated localities in the Donetsk region, including Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Maryinka, Pobeda, Novomykhailivka, suffered damages.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault actions west of Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region, where our defenders repelled 2 attacks. Approximately 10 populated localities, including Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Niva, Blahodatne, Urozhaino in Donetsk region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault actions in the areas of Robotine and northwest of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region. More than 20 populated localities, including Poltavka, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Robotine, Mali Shcherbaky, Kamianske in Zaporizhzhia region, and Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Kherson direction, populated localities such as Sofiivka in the Kherson region and the city of Kherson were subjected to artillery fire from the enemy.
Advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
At the same time, the Ukrainian defense forces continue the offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, conduct offensive (assault) actions on the Bahmut direction, inflict losses on the occupying forces in personnel and equipment, and weaken the enemy along the entire front line.
The defense forces maintain positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region. They continue to deliver fire impact on the enemy.
Enemy losses
During the day, the Defense Forces' aviation carried out 2 strikes on the concentration areas of the enemy personnel. It is worth noting that the total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion is 319,210 military personnel.
