Russia-Ukraine war: Situation on the front as of September 5

The Ukrainian defense forces continue their offensive operation in the Melitopol direction, consolidate their positions on the achieved lines, and conduct counter-battery measures. There were 29 armed clashes during the day, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy attacks
During the day, the enemy launched 6 missiles and 76 aviation strikes, as well as conducted 60 artillery shelling from reactive multiple-launch rocket systems on the positions of our troops and civilian settlements. Unfortunately, there have been casualties and injuries among the civilian population as a result of Russian terrorist attacks. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged.
The probability of missile and aviation strikes across the entire territory of Ukraine remains high.
The frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains relatively stable.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy conducted mortar and artillery shelling of more than 20 populated areas, including Buchky, Karpovychi, Prohres in Chernihiv region, Druzhba, Sytne, Nova Huta, Romashkove, Buhor, Malushyne in Sumy region, and Udy, Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory, Hatysche, Ohirtsi, Vilkhuvatka, and Ternova in Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy carried out an airstrike in the vicinity of Budarok in Kharkiv region. More than 15 populated areas were shelled by the enemy's artillery, including Fiholivka, Berestove, Dvorichna, Kyndrashivka, Synkivka, Pishchane, and Kyslivka in Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the areas of Novoehorivka and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region. They carried out airstrikes in the areas of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, Yampolivka, and Spyrne in the Donetsk region. More than 15 populated areas were shelled by the enemy's artillery, including Nevseke, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Spyrne, Rozdolivka, Serebrianka, Verkhniokamianske, Vesele, Pereizne in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, our defenders continue to conduct offensive actions south of the city of Bakhmut, consolidating their positions. Successful counterattacks were carried out against Russian forces north of Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy conducted an airstrike in the area of Ivanivsky in the Donetsk region. More than 15 populated areas were shelled by the enemy's artillery, including Minkivka, Vasiukivka, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Bila Hora, Pivnichne, Druzhba, New York in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, the enemy conducted an airstrike in the vicinity of Avdiivka. The enemy continues to shell populated areas with artillery and mortars, including Oleksandrivka, Novokalynove, Keramik, Avdiivka, Siverske, Nevelske, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold back the Russian forces' advance in the area of Maryinka. The enemy conducted an airstrike near Krasnohorivka. Artillery shelling affected the populated areas of Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Maksymilianivka, Hostre, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy conducted airstrikes in the areas of Vuhledar, Vodiane, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, and Urozhaine. Artillery shelling affected more than 10 populated areas, including Vuhledar, Vodiane, Shakhtarsk, Novoukrainka, Prechystivka, Velyka Novosilka, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy conducted airstrikes in the areas of Mala Tokmachka, Novodanilivka, Orikhiv, Preobrazhenka, Robotyne, and Stepnohirskyi in Zaporizhzhia region. Artillery shelling affected more than 20 populated areas, including Novodarivka, Olhivske, Zaliznychne, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, Shcherbaky, and Kamianske in Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy conducted airstrikes in the areas of Tyahinka and Molodizhne. Artillery and mortar shelling affected Olhivka and Burhunka in the Kherson region.
Enemy losses
During the day, the Defense Forces' aviation conducted 11 strikes on areas with a concentration of personnel, weaponry, and military equipment, and 2 strikes on enemy air defense missile complexes.
Units of the missile forces and artillery during the day damaged 11 artillery systems at firing positions and 4 enemy command points.
