Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 20

As of 10:00 PM Kyiv time on January 20, there were 102 combat clashes on the front during the day, with the highest number recorded in the Pokrovsk direction, according to a report from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy attacks
The General Staff reported that Russian forces carried out four missile strikes and 41 airstrikes, using 38 missiles and dropping 85 guided bombs. In addition, they deployed 3,369 kamikaze drones and conducted 2,503 attacks on Ukrainian positions and populated areas.
Frontline situation
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, the enemy carried out 65 attacks on Ukrainian positions and settlements during the day.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, the enemy launched nine assaults on Ukrainian positions in the area of Vovchansk and toward the settlements of Izbytske, Hrafske, Kruhlye, Nesterny, and Chuhunivka; four clashes are still ongoing.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russia conducted three offensive actions toward Pishchane and Petropavlivka, with one clash still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian Defense Forces positions ten times, targeting the settlements of Tverdokhlibove, Stavky, Dibrova, and Olhivka.
In the Sloviansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three enemy assaults as the Russian units attempted to advance near Dronivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian units repelled one enemy attack toward Bondarne.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, Russian forces launched 13 attacks on Ukrainian positions in the areas of Predtechyne, Ivanopillia, Pleshchiivka, Shcherbynivka, and toward Illinivka, Stepanivka, Berestka, Novopavlivka, and Sofiivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the Russian army attempted to advance against Ukrainian positions 31 times throughout the day. The enemy attacked near Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filya, and Dachne toward Novopavlivka. One clash is still ongoing.
“Today, in this direction, according to preliminary data, 115 enemy combatants were neutralized, of which 82 were permanently eliminated. In addition, Ukrainian soldiers destroyed three ATVs, three command posts, one motorcycle, four vehicles, three pieces of specialized equipment, one antenna, 26 drones, one artillery system, and one enemy UAV control post. Our defenders also struck four artillery systems, three vehicles, a UAV control post, and seven enemy personnel shelters,” the report states.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, the Russian army attempted a breakthrough toward Nova Zaporizhzhia.
In the Huliaipole direction, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions nine times, in the area of Huliaipole and toward Dobropillia and Zelenyi. They also carried out airstrikes on Huliaipole, Vozdvyzhenka, Hirkove, Huliaipolskyi, Sviatopetrivka, Zaliznychne, and Luhivske.
In the Orikhiv direction, Russian forces launched two attacks on Ukrainian positions near Stepnohirsk and Prymorske.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, no clashes have been recorded so far.
In the other directions, no significant changes were reported.
Russian army losses
Russia, continuing its war against Ukraine, loses soldiers and military equipment daily. Just in the previous 24 hours, from January 19 to 20, the Russian forces lost another 1,130 servicemen.
It was also reported that the Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed 60 artillery systems, 925 drones, and 191 vehicles.
Overall, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russian military losses have exceeded 1.2 million personnel.
