Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 18

Over the past day, January 17, there were 133 combat engagements along the front line. Russians are actively assaulting several directions, with the heaviest fighting on the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole axes, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Yesterday, the enemy carried out 90 airstrikes on the positions of Ukrainian units and populated areas, dropping 239 guided aerial bombs. In addition, 8,071 kamikaze drones were used, and 3,845 shelling attacks were recorded against Ukrainian positions and settlements, including 40 from multiple launch rocket systems.
The aggressor also conducted airstrikes, in particular on the areas of Rohizne in the Sumy region; Dibrova in the Dnipropetrovsk region; Rizdvianka, Zaliznychne, Zelena Dibrova, Dolynka, Odarivka, Zhovta Krucha, Huliaipole, Vozdvyzhivka, and Hirke in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Aircraft, missile forces, and artillery of the Defense Forces struck five areas of concentration of enemy personnel and equipment, two UAV control points, and one command and observation post of Russian forces.
Situation by directions
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, the enemy carried out two airstrikes over the past day, dropping eight aerial bombs, and conducted 79 shelling attacks, including two using multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Ukrainian forces repelled eight attacks in the areas of Vovchanski Khutory, Vovchansk, Prylipky, and toward Kruhle and Chuhunivka.
In the Kupiansk direction, six enemy attacks were recorded yesterday. Ukrainian defenders repelled assault actions toward Petropavlivka and Kurylivka.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked seven times, attempting to break through Ukrainian defenses in the areas of Myrne, Zarichne, and toward the settlements of Novoserhiivka, Stavky, Drobyshcheve, and Lyman.
In the Sloviansk direction, the Defense Forces repelled one enemy attack in the area of Sviato-Pokrovske.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive operations.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the enemy carried out 15 attacks near the settlements of Oleksandro-Shultyne, Shcherbynivka, Pleshchiivka, Rusyn Yar, and toward Ivanopillia, Torske, Illinivka, and Sofiivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped 45 assault actions by the aggressor in the areas of Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Sukhetske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Rivne, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, and toward Novopavlivka and Filiia.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, the enemy carried out six attacks yesterday in the areas of Vyshneve, Zlahoda, Zelenyi Hai, and Sosnivka.
In the Huliaipole direction, the Defense Forces repelled 22 Russian attacks in the areas of Solodke, Huliaipole, Dorozhnianka, and toward Dobropillia, Varvarivka, and Zelenyi.
In the Orikhiv direction, one combat engagement took place in the area of Prymorske.
In the Prydniprovske direction, the occupiers made one unsuccessful attempt to advance in the area of the Antonivskyi Bridge.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of enemy offensive group formations were detected.
Russia's losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost an estimated 1,226,420 troops.
Over the past day alone, Russian losses amounted to 830 personnel.
Ukrainian forces also destroyed five tanks, five armored combat vehicles, 33 artillery systems, one multiple launch rocket system, 845 operational-tactical UAVs, and 105 units of enemy automotive equipment.
