Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 17

Over the past day, January 16, there were 164 combat engagements along the front line. Russian occupiers were most active in the Pokrovsk and Huliaipole directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, yesterday the enemy carried out 71 air strikes and dropped 189 guided aerial bombs. In addition, it conducted 3,644 shelling attacks, including 49 using multiple launch rocket systems, and employed 7,621 kamikaze drones.
The aggressor carried out air strikes, in particular on areas near the settlements of Zaliznychne, Ternuvate, Rizdvianka, Liubytske, and Verkhna Tersa in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Aircraft, missile forces, and artillery of the Defense Forces struck six areas of concentration of enemy personnel and equipment, as well as an ammunition depot belonging to the Russian invaders.
Situation on the directions
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, Ukrainian defenders repelled two Russian attacks. The enemy carried out three air strikes, dropped three guided aerial bombs, and conducted 118 shelling attacks, including nine using multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, our troops stopped 12 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Starytsia, Prylipka, Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory, Chuhunivka, Ambarne, Dehtiarne, and toward Kruhlyi.
In the Kupiansk direction, two attacks by the invaders took place yesterday. Our defenders repelled enemy assault actions toward Petropavlivka.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked four times, attempting to wedge into our defenses in the areas of Novovodiane, Kolodiazi, and toward Dibrоva.
In the Sloviansk direction, the Defense Forces repelled two enemy attacks in the area of Dronivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy attacked the positions of our defenders once toward Minkivka.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the enemy carried out 18 attacks near Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Ivanopillia, Yablunivka, Rusyn Yar, and toward Sofiivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, our defenders stopped 49 assault actions by the aggressor in the areas of the settlements of Shakhove, Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, and toward Filiia.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, the enemy carried out five attacks yesterday in the areas of the settlements of Zelenyi Hai, Oleksiivka, Stepove, and Krasnohirske.
In the Huliaipole direction, the Defense Forces repelled 31 Russian attacks in the areas of the settlements of Solodke, Huliaipole, Dorozhnianka, Zelene, and toward Varvarivka.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy made six attempts to break through our defenses in the areas of the settlements of Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, and Shcherbaky.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive actions.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of the formation of enemy offensive groupings were detected.
Russia's losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the start of the full-scale war, Russia has lost an estimated 1,225,590 personnel.
In particular, over the past day, the losses of the Russian invaders amounted to 1,130 personnel.
Ukrainian soldiers also neutralized three tanks, six armored combat vehicles, 31 artillery systems, one multiple launch rocket system, one air defense system, 721 operational-tactical level unmanned aerial vehicles, and 115 units of enemy automotive equipment.
