Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 6

As of the evening of December 6, the situation along the frontline remained tense, with hostilities ongoing along almost the entire line of contact, according to a publication by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As of 10:00 PM on January 6, 200 combat engagements had been recorded since the start of the day.
Russian forces carried out one missile strike and 54 airstrikes, launched one missile, and dropped 139 guided aerial bombs. They also employed 4,073 kamikaze drones and conducted 2,552 shelling attacks against Ukrainian troop positions and populated areas.
North and East
In the North Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, two combat engagements took place; airstrikes and artillery fire were recorded.
In the South Slobozhanskyi direction, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 11 attacks near Vovchansk, Starytsia, and Prylipky; three engagements were still ongoing.
In the Kupiansk and Lyman directions, Russian forces attempted to advance; some engagements remained active by evening.
Donetsk direction
In the Sloviansk direction, three attacks were repelled.
In the Kramatorsk direction, five attacks were repelled; one engagement continued.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, 16 attacks were recorded, with the enemy concentrating efforts across several sectors.
Pokrovsk and South
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces attempted to break through defenses 41 times. Ukrainian troops eliminated 84 occupiers, including 53 irreversibly, and destroyed a significant amount of equipment, drones, and command posts.
Intense fighting also continued in the Oleksandrivka and Huliaipole directions, where dozens of attacks were repelled.
In the Orikhiv and Prydniprovskyi directions, no offensive actions were recorded.
Separately, France and the United Kingdom agreed to establish military hubs on Ukrainian territory after a ceasefire comes into force. According to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, these facilities are предусмотрены by the declaration of intent on force deployment and are to become operational once participation of the British contingent in securing a future truce is confirmed.
Russia has created dedicated unmanned systems troops, modeled on a structure previously implemented by Ukraine, and plans to scale them further. This was reported by Oleksandr Syrskyi, who said military intelligence has information on the current size of these units and their expansion plans.
