Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 28

As of 10:00 PM Kyiv time on December 28, there were 186 combat engagements along the front. The Pokrovsk direction remains the hottest, with Russian forces resuming assaults near the Antonivskyi Bridge, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
Over the past 24 hours, Russia carried out 38 airstrikes, dropping 102 guided bombs. The invaders also launched attacks using 2,780 kamikaze drones and shelled Ukrainian positions and populated areas 2,539 times.
Frontline situation
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, Ukrainian defenders repelled two enemy attacks, while Russian forces conducted 97 shelling strikes.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions seven times near Starytsia, Prylipka, and in the direction of Hryhorivka and Izbytske.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces carried out three assaults toward Kupiansk, Pishchane, and Mala Shapkivka, with one engagement still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions 14 times near Novoselivka, Zarichne, and Myrne, as well as toward Lyman, Zakitne, Druzheliubivka, Dibrova, Ozerne, and Drobysheve, with one engagement continuing.
In the Sloviansk direction, Russian units launched four attacks near Serebrianka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled one attack near Minkivka.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, Russian forces struck Ukrainian positions 25 times near Kostiantynivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, Yablunivka, Kleban-Byk, and toward Sofiivka, Stepanivka, and Berestka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy attempted to break through Ukrainian defenses 45 times near Chervonyi Lyman, Myrnohrad, Novoekonomichne, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiia, and toward Novopavlivka, Nove Shakhove, Rodynske, Serhiivka, and Vilne. Two engagements remain ongoing.
Over the past day, Ukrainian forces eliminated 146 Russian troops in this direction, including 100 irrecoverable losses. They also destroyed two vehicles, 14 drones, two units of special equipment, hit two more vehicles, a UAV control point, and three enemy personnel shelters.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 19 attacks near Yalta, Vyshneve, Rybne, and Oleksandrohrad, as well as toward Iskra, Khoroshe, Nove Zaporizhzhia, Ivanivka, and Sosnivka. Russia also carried out an airstrike on Velykomykhailivka.
In the Huliaipole direction, Ukrainian forces repelled 17 attacks in Huliaipole, Solodke, Dorozhnianka, Bilohiria, and toward Varvarivka, with two engagements still ongoing.
In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian forces repelled nine attacks near Shcherbakiv, Mala Tokmachka, Stepove, Plavni, and toward Novoandriivka and Prymorske.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Russian forces conducted three attacks near the Antonivskyi Bridge.
Russian losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost approximately 1,204,510 troops. Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces lost 1,200 personnel.
