Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 21

During the past 24 hours, on December 20, there were 235 combat engagements on the front. Russian forces attacked in 12 directions, with the heaviest fighting on the Pokrovsk direction, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, yesterday the enemy carried out 70 airstrikes on Ukrainian positions and populated areas, dropping 166 guided bombs. In addition, they conducted 3,609 shellings, including 94 with multiple launch rocket systems, and used 2,833 kamikaze drones.
Airstrikes hit, in particular, the areas of Izium in Kharkiv region; Dubovyky in Dnipropetrovsk region; Preobrazhenka in Zaporizhzhia region; Snihurivka in Mykolaiv region.
Over the past day, the missile troops and artillery of the Defense Forces struck concentrations of enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment, as well as one other important target of the Russian invaders.
Situation by direction
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, nine clashes took place yesterday.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, the Defense Forces repelled 13 enemy attacks near Sotnytsky Kozachok, Vovchansk, Prylipka, and toward Izbytske and Hryhorivka.
On the Kupiansk direction, six attacks occurred. The Defense Forces repelled enemy assaults near Stepova Novoselivka and toward Nova Kruhlyakivka and Pishchane.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked 14 times, trying to advance near Ridkodub, Novoiehorivka, Novovodyane, Zarichne, Serednie, Kolodiazi, and toward Korovyn Yar.
In the Sloviansk direction, our defenders repelled 12 assaults near Dronivka, Siversk, Vyiimka, and toward Zakitne.
On the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy attacked three times near Vasiukivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, and Stupochky.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the enemy carried out 18 attacks near Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Yablunivka, Rusyn Yar, and toward Sofiivka.
On the Pokrovsk direction, 72 clashes occurred near Nikanorivka, Shakhove, Myrnohrad, Rodynske, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Novoserhiivka, Dachne, and toward Novopavlivka.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, the Defense Forces stopped 19 enemy attempts near Filiya, Zelenyi Hai, Piddubne, Sosnivka, Verbove, Stepove, Vyshneve, and Zlahoda.
On the Huliaipole direction, the aggressor tried 17 times to advance on our positions near Varvarivka, Zelenyi, and Huliaipole.
In the Orikhiv direction, our defenders repelled three enemy attacks near Shcherbakiv and toward Prymorske.
On the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy made five unsuccessful attempts to approach Ukrainian positions.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of enemy offensive groupings were detected.
Russian losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has lost approximately 1,196,740 military personnel.
Specifically, in the past day, Russian losses amounted to 1,130 personnel.
Ukrainian forces also destroyed two tanks, one armored combat vehicle, 11 artillery systems, 116 operational-tactical level UAVs, 68 vehicles, and one piece of special equipment of the Russians.
