Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 16

Over the past day, December 15, 151 combat engagements were recorded along the front line. The most intense fighting was carried out by Russian forces in the Pokrovsk, Oleksandrivka, and Kostiantynivka directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, yesterday the enemy launched 90 airstrikes on the positions of Ukrainian units and populated areas, dropping 220 guided aerial bombs.
In addition, the enemy deployed 5,471 kamikaze drones and carried out 4,103 shelling attacks on Ukrainian military positions and settlements, including 88 attacks using multiple launch rocket systems.
The aggressor also carried out airstrikes on areas near the settlements of Ryzhivka in the Sumy region, Havrylivka in the Dnipropetrovsk region, and Huliaipole and Zaliznychne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Over the past day, Ukrainian Defense Forces’ aviation, missile troops, and artillery struck two concentrations of enemy personnel and equipment, one artillery system, and two enemy command posts.
Situation by directions
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, one combat engagement took place. The enemy carried out 121 shelling attacks, including two using multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Ukrainian forces stopped four enemy attacks near Prylipky and toward Obukhivka.
In the Kupiansk direction, one enemy attack was recorded. Ukrainian defenders repelled an assault near Pishchane.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked 12 times, attempting to breach Ukrainian defenses near Novoselivka, Serednie, and Zarichne, and to advance toward Drobyshivske and Lyman.
In the Sloviansk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled seven enemy attacks near Serebrianka, Dronivka, Siversk, and toward Sviato-Pokrovske.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive operations.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the aggressor launched 20 attacks near Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Kleban-Byk, Rusyn Yar, and toward Kostiantynivka, Novopavlivka, Ivanopillia, and Sofiivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped 40 enemy assault actions near Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiia, and toward Hryshyne, Toretske, Bilytske, and Novopavlivka.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, the enemy carried out 24 attacks near Yalta, Sichneve, Sosnivka, Verbove, Zlahoda, Pryvilne, Rybne, Zelenyi Hai, Andriivka-Klevtsove, Oleksandrohrad, Solodke, Yehorivka, and toward Oleksiivka.
In the Huliaipole direction, Ukrainian forces repelled 13 Russian attacks toward Huliaipole, Dobropillia, and Varvarivka.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy made three unsuccessful attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses toward Novoandriivka, Pavlivka, and near Shcherbaky.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, one attempt by Russian troops to approach Ukrainian positions near Antonivka ended in failure.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of enemy offensive group formations were detected.
Russian losses in the war
According to the General Staff, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost approximately 1,190,620 troops.
Over the past day alone, Russian losses amounted to 1,150 personnel.
Ukrainian forces also destroyed nine tanks, six armored combat vehicles, 67 artillery systems, 442 operational-tactical UAVs, 177 vehicles, one submarine, and one heavy flamethrower system belonging to the occupiers.
