Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of November 9

As of 4:00 PM Kyiv time on November 9, Ukrainian forces reported 141 combat engagements across the front in the past 24 hours, with most clashes occurring again in the Pokrovsk direction, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
The General Staff reported that Russian forces hit communities in the Sumy region with artillery and mortar fire today, including Boyaro-Lezhachi, Bobylivka, and Bila Bereza.
Frontline situation
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, Ukrainian troops repelled two Russian attacks, and one engagement is still ongoing. Enemy aviation carried out two airstrikes, dropping four guided bombs, while the enemy also launched 74 attacks on Ukrainian positions and settlements, including two using multiple-launch rocket systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, six Russian attacks occurred near Vovchansk and Bolohivka, with four clashes still ongoing.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled three enemy attacks toward Petropavlivka and Pishchane, with two clashes continuing.
In the Lyman direction, the Russian army carried out 12 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Borivska Andriivka, Tverdokhlibove, Ridkodub, and Derylove, and toward Chervonyi Stav, Korovii Yar, and Drobysheve, with five clashes ongoing.
In the Sloviansk direction, Russian forces attempted four advances on Ukrainian positions near Yampil, Serebrianka, and Siversk, all of which were stopped by Ukrainian forces.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian troops repelled two enemy offensives near Vasiukivka and toward Minkivka.
In the Kostiantynivka direction, the enemy tried 19 times to breach Ukrainian defenses near Oleksandro-Shultyne, Shcherbynivka, Pleshchiivka, Rusyn Yar, and toward Sofiivka and Illinivka, with fighting ongoing in seven locations.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces attempted 60 times to dislodge Ukrainian troops from positions near Shakhove, Nikanorivka, Bilytske, Zatyshok, Chervonyi Lyman, Rodynske, Zelene, Dachenske, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiia, and Dachne, as well as toward Novyi Shakhove and Novopavlivka. Ukrainian forces held the line and repelled 37 attacks.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, Ukrainian defenders stopped 14 enemy assaults, with the enemy trying to advance near Yalta, Ivanivka, Zelenyi Hai, Oleksandrohrad, Novoselivka, Sichneve, Orestopil, Stepove, and Verbove. Five clashes are ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, 10 clashes occurred near Zelenyi Hai, Vesele, Solodke, Zlahoda, and toward Yablukove and Rivnopillia, with one engagement continuing.
In the Orikhiv direction, Russian units launched eight attacks today, attempting advances near Mali Shcherbaky, Stepove, and toward Novoandriivka, Novodanilivka, and Prymorske.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, no Russian offensive actions were recorded.
Russian losses in the war against Ukraine
Russian troops continue to suffer daily losses. Between November 8 and 9 alone, the Russian army lost 970 soldiers, 19 artillery systems, 440 drones, 85 vehicles, and more.
Since the start of the full-scale war, Russian losses have exceeded 1.1 million personnel.
