As of 10:00 PM on October 5, a total of 192 combat engagements took place along the frontline during the day. The heaviest fighting was recorded in the Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka directions, according to the daily update from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Throughout the day on October 5, russian forces conducted a large-scale missile and air strike, launching 53 missiles and 40 airstrikes, and dropping 77 guided aerial bombs. In addition, they deployed 1,862 kamikaze drones and carried out 2,983 attacks on Ukrainian troop positions and settlements.

Frontline updates

In the Northern Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, Ukrainian forces repelled seven russian assault attempts, with one engagement still ongoing. The enemy carried out three airstrikes, dropping seven guided bombs, and launched 123 attacks, including five from multiple launch rocket systems.

In the Southern Slobozhanskyi direction, russian troops attempted 29 assaults near Vovchanski Khutory, Odradne, Bolohivka, Kutkivka, Krasne Pershe, Kam’ianka, and Zakhidne. Six engagements remain active.

In the Kupiansk direction, russian forces launched assaults near Kupiansk and Petropavlivka. Ukrainian defenders repelled six attacks, while one clash is still underway.

In the Lyman direction, russian troops attacked nine times near Serednie, Novoselivka, Karpivka, Torske, and toward Cherneshchyna and Drobysheve. Fighting continues in one location.

In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled nine russian assaults near Yampil, Hryhorivka, Vyimka, and Fedorivka, with one engagement ongoing.

In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled four attacks near Chasiv Yar and Stupochky.

In the Toretsk direction, russian troops launched 15 assaults near Oleksandro-Kalynove, Kleban-Byk, Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, and Poltavka. Twelve attacks were repelled, and three engagements are still in progress.

In the Pokrovsk direction, russian forces attempted to advance 39 times toward Ukrainian positions. Fighting took place near Volodymyrivka, Sukhetske, Zvirove, Nykanorivka, Zolotyi Kolodiaz, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Myroliubivka, Novoekonomichne, Kozatske, Lysivka, Kotlyne, Udachne, and Molodetske, as well as toward Pokrovsk and Filiia. Five engagements are still ongoing.

"According to preliminary data, 133 russian troops were neutralized in this direction today, including 83 killed. Ukrainian soldiers also destroyed one tank, two armored combat vehicles, two trucks, four UAVs, and two pieces of special equipment. Two UAV control points, another two vehicles, and one artillery gun were damaged," the report said.

In the Novopavlivka direction, russian forces made 39 attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses near Myrne, Piddubne, Novoselivka, Sichneve, Novoyehorivka, Ternove, Sosnivka, Komyshuvakha, Vorone, Maliivka, Berezove, Kalynivske, Novomykolaivka, and Novohryhorivka. Fighting continues in seven areas.

In the Hulyaipole direction, four clashes were recorded near Poltavka, and the settlement of Zaliznychne came under an airstrike.

In the Orikhiv direction, five clashes occurred as russian troops tried to advance near Stepove and Plavni, while the area around Zaporizhzhia also came under an airstrike.

In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Ukrainian units repelled two russian assaults toward the Antonivskyi bridge area. Antonivka was hit by airstrikes.

In other directions, the situation remained largely unchanged.

Russian losses

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during the previous day (October 4–5), russian forces lost another 870 soldiers in combat. Ukrainian troops also destroyed four tanks, 18 artillery systems, and 35 vehicles.

Overall, russian losses since the start of the full-scale invasion have exceeded 1.1 million personnel.
