Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of August 31

As of 4:00 p.m., August 31, there have been 77 combat clashes on the front since the beginning of the day. Nearly half of them took place in the Pokrovsk direction, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
Enemy shelling
Today, border settlements suffered from shelling launched from Russian territory, in particular:
- Kliusy, Chernihiv region;
- Sorokyne, Prohres, Novovasylivka, Tovstodubove, Nova Huta, Zarichne, Znob-Novhorodske, Buniakyne, Seredyna-Buda, Bachivsk in the Sumy region.
The enemy’s aviation also struck the settlement of Velyka Bereza with guided aerial bombs.
Situation on frontline
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, Russian forces carried out 99 attacks on Ukrainian positions and local settlements, including 3 with MLRS.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled three enemy attacks near the settlements of Vovchansk, Hlyboke, and Krasne Pershe.
In the Kupiansk direction, fighting is currently ongoing near the settlement of Synkivka.
In the Lyman direction, the Russian army attacked 13 times near the settlements of Shandryholove, Kolodiazi, Karpivka, and towards Dronivka, Serebrianka, Yampil, and Hryhorivka. Five combat clashes are still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled three attacks. The enemy units attempted to advance near Hryhorivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, no combat clashes took place at this time.
In the Toretsk direction, near the settlements of Toretsk, Dyliivka, and Poltavka, Ukrainian soldiers repelled four enemy assaults.
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, Russian troops have made 32 attempts to dislodge Ukrainian defenders from their positions near the settlements of Shakhove, Fedorivka, Maiak, Nykanorivka, Nove Shakhove, Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Sukhetske, Promin, Sukhyi Yar, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, Orikhove, and Dachne. Ukraine’s Defense Forces are holding back the enemy’s pressure and have already repelled 26 attacks.
Today, in the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy attacked 18 times near the settlements of Filiia, Yalta, Tovste, Oleksandrohrad, Maliivka, Voskresenka, and Komyshuvakha. Six combat clashes are still ongoing. Havrylivka suffered an airstrike with guided bombs.
In the Huliaipole and Orikhiv directions, the enemy has not carried out offensive actions at this time.
In the Prydniprovsk direction, Russian troops carried out one attack, but was unsuccessful. Odradokamianka suffered an airstrike.
In other directions of the front, the situation has not undergone significant changes.
Russian army losses
Over the past day, from August 30 to 31, the Russian army lost another 810 soldiers in battles against Ukraine. In addition, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 2 enemy tanks, 27 artillery systems, as well as 83 military vehicles and fuel tanks.
In total, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russian army's losses have exceeded 1 million personnel.
