Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of August 21

As of 10:00 p.m. Kyiv time on August 21, there were 116 combat engagements on the front during the day. The number of battles in the Novopavlivka direction was nearly the same as in the Pokrovsk direction, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
The enemy carried out two missile strikes using 43 missiles and 49 airstrikes, dropping 70 guided aerial bombs. They also deployed 1,850 kamikaze drones for attacks and conducted 3,876 shellings of settlements and Ukrainian military positions.
Frontline situation
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, Ukrainian defenders repelled two enemy attacks. The adversary carried out five airstrikes, dropped nine guided aerial bombs, and conducted 161 artillery strikes, including four from multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Ukrainian units repelled five enemy attacks near the settlements of Vovchansk, Khatne, Ambarne, and Zapadne.
In the Kupiansk direction, our forces repelled five enemy attacks in the areas of Holubivka and Kupiansk.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian troops stopped 14 enemy assault actions near the settlements of Karpivka, Zelena Dolyna, Kolodyazi, Dibrova, and toward Yampil. Three additional combat engagements are still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, the adversary carried out five offensive actions in the areas of Serebrianka, Viyimka, Hryhorivka, Siversk, and Fedorivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, our defenders repelled four attempts by the enemy to advance in the areas of Kostiantynivka and Predtechyne.
In the Toretsk direction, the Russian army launched four assaults on the positions of our defenders in the areas of Oleksandro-Kalyneve, Pleshchiivka, Sofiivka, Poltavka, and Toretsk. The defense forces are firmly holding the line and repelling all enemy attacks.
Throughout August 21, in the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy carried out 29 offensive actions. Russian army's activity was recorded near the settlements of Nikanorivka, Novoekonomichne, Mykolaivka, Rodynske, Myroliubivka, Chervonyi Lyman, Promin, Pokrovsk, Zvirove, Novopavlivka, Muravka, Novoukrainka, Zatyshok, Kotlyne, Udachne, and Lysivka. Three combat engagements are still ongoing.
“Today, in this direction, according to preliminary data, 107 Russian soldiers were neutralized, of whom 71 were permanently eliminated. In addition, Ukrainian troops destroyed one UAV control point, one fuel and lubricant depot, 47 unmanned aerial vehicles, six vehicles, and two units of special equipment, and also struck two enemy artillery pieces,” the report states.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian units repelled 25 enemy attacks near the settlements of Voskresenka, Zaporizke, Temyrivka, Zelene Pole, Tolstyi, Lisne, Olhivske, and in the direction of Komyshuvakha and Filiya. Two combat engagements are still ongoing.
In the Huliaipole and Orikhiv directions, the enemy did not conduct any offensive actions. Enemy aviation carried out strikes on the settlements of Novoukrainka and Orikhiv.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the Russian army attacked the positions of the Defense Forces twice in the area of the Antonivskyi Bridge. The enemy did not succeed. The settlement of Prydniprovskyi was struck by guided aerial bombs.
Russian army losses
From August 20 to 21, the Russian forces lost an additional 830 soldiers on the front. The Ukrainian Armed Forces also destroyed 41 artillery systems, 315 drones, and 114 units of vehicles.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the Russian army's losses have nearly reached 1.1 million personnel.
