Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of August 18

Over the past 24 hours, 148 combat clashes were recorded on the front line, with the heaviest fighting taking place in the Pokrovsk direction, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Yesterday, Russian forces carried out 68 airstrikes on Ukrainian territory, dropping 127 guided aerial bombs. In addition, the occupiers launched 4,718 kamikaze drones and carried out 5,955 shelling attacks on Ukrainian military positions and settlements, including 140 with multiple launch rocket systems.
During the past day, Ukraine’s Air Force, missile forces, and artillery struck four concentrations of enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment, four artillery systems, four ammunition and supply depots, and one enemy command post.
Situation by directions
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, since the beginning of the day Ukrainian forces have repelled three enemy assaults. In addition, the enemy carried out 13 airstrikes, dropping 26 guided bombs, and launched 279 attacks on Ukrainian positions and settlements, including 11 with multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, the enemy attempted seven assaults on Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk, Krasne Pershe, Kamyanka, and Ambarne.
In the Kupiansk direction, 17 enemy attacks took place over the past day. Defense Forces repelled assaults near Kindrashivka, Zapadne, Holubivka, and Stepova Novoselivka.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy carried out 32 assaults, trying to advance near Karpivka, Zelena Dolyna, Kolodyazi, and toward Serebrianka and Hryhorivka.
In the Siversk direction, in the area of Hryhorivka, the enemy twice attacked Ukrainian positions.
In the Kramatorsk direction, one battle took place — the enemy attacked near Oleksandro-Shultyne.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy launched five attacks near Toretsk, Dyliivka, and toward Pleshchiivka.
In the Pokrovsk direction, defenders stopped 51 assaults and offensive actions near Poltavka, Volodymyrivka, Nove Shakhove, Novoeconomichne, Rodynske, Promin, Lysivka, Chunyshyne, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, Orikhove, Muravka, and Filiia.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy carried out 26 attacks near Novokhatske, Vilne Pole, Myrne, Piddubne, Shevchenko, Voskresenka, Temyrivka, Maliivka, and Olhivske.
In the Orikhiv direction, defenders repelled an enemy assault toward Stepnohirsk.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy made two unsuccessful attempts to approach Ukrainian positions.
Fighting for Dobropillia
As a reminder, on August 11 the DeepState analytical project reported that Russian forces managed to advance near the town of Dobropillia in Donetsk region. Analysts noted that Russian troops approached the settlements of Kucheriv Yar, Zolotyi Kolodiaz, and Vesele.
The Dnipro operational-strategic group of troops confirmed that in the Dobropillia direction the enemy is using numerical superiority and attempting to advance in small groups past the first line of Ukrainian defenses.
In recent days, the situation has stabilized, with Ukrainian troops regaining a number of positions. According to ISW, the enemy is trying to break through Ukrainian defenses using drones.
However, Ukrainian military reported that Russian forces have occupied two settlements in Donetsk region.
