Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of July 22

On July 22, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 131 assaults along key front-line sectors, eliminating over 100 Russian personnel and dozens of targets. Russian forces carried out more than 4,000 strikes, including heavy use of aviation, kamikaze drones, and guided bombs, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On July 22, Ukraine’s Defense Forces continued active combat operations against Russian forces along the entire front line.
Over the course of the day, there were 131 combat engagements. Russian forces launched one missile strike and 51 airstrikes, deploying 66 guided aerial bombs (KABs). Additionally, 1,218 Shahed-type kamikaze drones were recorded, along with 4,094 ground strikes targeting Ukrainian positions and populated areas.
Despite the high intensity of attacks, Ukrainian troops continue to demonstrate resilience, effectively eliminating Russian personnel and equipment.
Hottest frontline directions
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces carried out 61 assaults over the past day, attempting to break through defenses near the settlements of Poltavka, Novotoretske, Novoeconomichne, Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Novoukrainka, Zvirove, Udachne, Zelenyi Kut, Dachne, and Oleksiivka. Eight combat engagements were still ongoing at the time of reporting.
Preliminary data indicates 131 Russian troops were killed and 70 wounded. Ukrainian forces also destroyed or damaged several Russian assets, including an infantry fighting vehicle, motorcycles, artillery systems, drones, shelters, and command equipment.
In the Toretsk direction, Russian forces launched repeated assaults near Diliivka, Toretsk, Oleksandro-Kalynove, and Rusyn Yar. Ukrainian troops repelled 10 attacks, with two engagements still ongoing. The Defense Forces are firmly holding their ground, preventing any Russian advance.
In the Lyman direction, 17 attacks were repelled. Ukrainian troops disrupted Russian assaults near Hrekivka, Kolodiazi, Zelena Dolyna, Myrne, Yampolivka, Torske, and in the direction of Serebrianka. Four engagements were still in progress, reflecting continued high Russian activity.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Russian troops attempted attacks near Voskresenka, Yalta, Piddubne, and Zelenyi Hai, but all five assaults were successfully repelled.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, seven Russian attempts to advance were thwarted—Ukrainian forces are holding their positions and preventing breakthroughs.

Military expert and Ukrainian Armed Forces reserve major Oleksii Hetman recently presented a map of a possible Russian offensive.
Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian forces have significantly fallen behind their planned summer offensive objectives.
