Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of July 12

As of 4:00 PM Kyiv time on July 12, a total of 120 combat clashes had taken place along the front lines since the beginning of the day. The highest number of engagements was recorded in the Pokrovsk direction, informs the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
Several communities came under Russian artillery and mortar fire on Friday. These included:
- Vysoke, Mykhailivske, Novovasylivka, and Sosnivka in Sumy region;
- Klyusy and Baranivka in the Chernihiv region.
In addition, an airstrike hit the village of Boyaro-Lezhachi in the Sumy region.
Frontline situation
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces launched 36 attempts to push Ukrainian troops from their positions. The attacks targeted areas near Popiv Yar, Volodymyrivka, Razine, Myrne, Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Shevchenko, Zvirove, Udachne, and Orikhove, and moved toward Pokrovsk, Molodetske, Filiia, and Oleksiivka. Ukrainian Defense Forces have repelled 30 of these assaults so far.
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, 11 combat clashes took place. Russian forces carried out six airstrikes, dropping ten guided bombs, and conducted 141 shelling attacks. Eight of them involved multiple rocket launcher systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, Russian troops launched seven offensive actions targeting the areas of Vovchansk, Zelene, and Chuhunivka.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian troops carried out six assaults near Kindrashivka, Petropavlivka, Pishchane, Stepova Novoselivka, and Zelenyi Hai. These attacks were directed toward the village of Novoosynove.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian forces came under attack 17 times. The fighting was concentrated near Hrekivka, Karpivka, Novyi Myr, Kolodiazi, Zelena Dolyna, Torske, Dibrova, and in the direction of Serebrianka and Dronivka. Seven combat engagements are still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, Russian forces launched two assaults near Ivano-Darivka and Vyimka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled four assaults near Klishchiivka and Bila Hora, where Russian troops attempted to break through.
In the Toretsk direction, six Russian attacks were repelled in the areas of Dyliivka, Toretsk, and in the direction of Rusyn Yar, Stepanivka, and Yablunivka. One combat engagement is ongoing.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Russian forces attempted to break through Ukrainian defenses eight times. The assaults targeted Dachne, Filiia, Myrne, Shevchenko, Temyrivka, Zelene Pole, and moved toward Novopavlivka. Three engagements are still underway.
In the Huliaipole direction, a Russian airstrike hit the area near the village of Charivne.
In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian forces repelled two Russian assaults near Kamianske. The villages of Novoandriivka and Plavni came under airstrikes with guided bombs.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Russian troops launched five assaults targeting Ukrainian positions, but failed to achieve any success.
Russian losses in the war
According to Ukraine's General Staff, Russian forces lost 1,070 soldiers between July 11 and July 12. In addition, Ukrainian troops destroyed 31 artillery systems, 245 drones, and 90 vehicles.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia's total military losses have surpassed 1 million troops.
