Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of July 4

Since the beginning of the day, nearly 80 combat clashes have been recorded along the front line. Russian forces have intensified assaults in ten directions at once. The heaviest fighting is taking place near Pokrovsk, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As of 4:00 p.m., a total of 77 combat engagements had occurred. The Defense Forces are taking measures to prevent the enemy from advancing deeper into Ukrainian territory.
Today, communities in border areas have come under enemy artillery fire, including Yanzhulivka in the Chernihiv region; Velyka Pysarivka, Tovstodubove, Mykhailivske, Pokrovka, Prokhody, Maryine, Luhivka, Muraveinia, and Znob-Novhorodske in the Sumy region; and Tymofiivka in the Kharkiv region.
Situation by direction
In the Northern-Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, 11 combat clashes have occurred since the beginning of the day. In addition, the enemy carried out 8 airstrikes, dropping 15 guided bombs, and shelled Ukrainian positions and settlements 160 times, including 8 attacks with multiple launch rocket systems.
In the Southern-Slobozhanskyi direction, the Defense Forces repelled 3 enemy attacks, and 2 more battles are ongoing. Russian forces are attempting to advance near Vovchansk, Hlyboke, and Zelenyi. The village of Vilkhuvatka was hit by an airstrike.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian troops tried 4 times to break through Ukrainian defenses near Holubivka and Zelenyi Hai. Fighting is still ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, the Russian army launched 9 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Nadiia, Hrekivka, Karpivka, Ridkodub, Zelena Dolyna, and Torske. Four engagements are currently in progress.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy launched 3 assault actions toward Romanivka, Rusyn Yar, and Yablunivka. One battle is still underway.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces made 30 attempts to dislodge Ukrainian defenders from positions near Poltavka, Novotoretske, Razine, Myroliubivka, Promin, Novoukrainka, Udachne, Novoserhiivka, Kotliarivka, and Oleksiivka. Ukrainian troops held their ground and repelled 27 attacks, with 3 battles ongoing.
The enemy also dropped aerial bombs on Novopavlivka.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Russian forces tried to break through Ukrainian defenses near Yalta, Zirka, Zaporizhzhia, Komar, Voskresenka, and Shevchenko. The Defense Forces repelled 8 assaults, while 2 more attacks are in progress.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy launched 2 attacks near Kamianske and toward Novoandriivka. Russian aircraft also struck the area of Kamianske.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 2 enemy assaults near the Antonivskyi Bridge, with one clash still ongoing.
Enemy losses
Ukrainian soldiers inflict significant losses in manpower and equipment of the Russian forces and actively undermine the enemy's offensive potential in the rear.
The Russian army lost 1,120 personnel over the last day.
Ukrainian troops also destroyed:
- two tanks,
- ten armored combat vehicles,
- 50 artillery systems,
- one multiple launch rocket system,
- 205 operational and tactical level UAVs,
- 112 units of automotive and three units of special equipment.
