Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of June 1

Ukraine's Defense Forces are actively holding back the advance of Russian troops, repelling numerous attacks in the east of the country. The operational situation remains tense, particularly in the Kharkiv and Kupiansk directions, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
As of 4:00 p.m. Kyiv time, the number of combat clashes with the Russian aggressor since the beginning of the day stands at 83.
Today, communities in border districts with Russia suffered from enemy artillery and mortar fire, including the settlements of Myropilske, Prokhody, Pokrovka, Popivka, Porozok, Studenok, Sosnivka, Turia, Novovasylivka, Prohres, Luhivka, Bobylivka, and Velyka Pysarivka in the Sumy region.
Situation by directions
In the Kharkiv direction, Ukraine's Defense Forces are repelling an enemy attack near Fiholivka.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian troops attacked six times in the areas of Stepova Novoselivka and Nova Kruhliakivka. One battle is currently ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, the Russian army launched nine attacks during the day on Ukrainian positions in the areas of Hrekivka, Novomykhailivka, Nadiia, Ridkodub, and Yampil. Two combat clashes are still ongoing. Ukrainian troops are steadfastly holding the line and inflicting losses on the enemy.
In the Siversk direction, the enemy attacked towards Hryhorivka and near Bilohorivka and Zolotarivka. Since the beginning of the day, Ukrainian forces have repelled four assault actions by the enemy.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the Russian military assaulted the positions of Ukraine's Defense Forces near Chasiv Yar and toward Bila Hora. Ukrainian defenders halted one offensive action; two more combat clashes are currently underway.
In the Toretsk direction, there have been seven combat clashes since the beginning of the day in the areas of Toretsk and Dyliivka. Ukraine's Defense Forces repelled six enemy attacks, and one battle is ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian invaders made 28 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders out of their positions near the settlements of Popiv Yar, Myroliubivka, Malynivka, Lysivka, Udachne, Novoserhiivka, Novomykolaivka, and Andriivka.
Ukraine's Defense Forces are holding the line and have repelled 25 enemy attacks, with three battles still ongoing. The enemy also launched airstrikes using guided bombs on Myrnohrad.
In the Novopavlivka direction, nine enemy attacks took place in the areas of Novosilka, Zelenyi Hai, Novopil, Vilne Pole, Bahatyr, Kostiantynopil, and Odradne. Three combat clashes are still in progress.
In the Huliaipole direction, Russian aviation struck Zaliznychne with unguided rockets.
Ukrainian defenders are repelling an enemy attack in the area of Stepove in the Orikhiv direction. The enemy carried out airstrikes on the area of the settlement Novoiakovlivka.
In the Prydniprovske direction, Russian troops launched an airstrike on Olhivka.
In the Kursk direction, there were 12 combat clashes today, two of which are still ongoing.
Furthermore, the enemy conducted two airstrikes, dropping six guided aerial bombs, and carried out 106 artillery shellings of Ukrainian troops' positions and populated areas, including three from multiple launch rocket systems.
"There have been no significant changes in the situation in the other directions," the General Staff noted.
Russian losses in war
The total Russian combat losses since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine up to today, June 1, amount to approximately 988,560 military personnel.
On May 31, the Russian army lost more than 1,200 soldiers during hostilities.
Ukrainian troops also eliminated five enemy tanks, four armored fighting vehicles, 52 artillery systems, one MLRS, 151 operational-tactical level UAVs, three cruise missiles, 127 vehicles, and one unit of special equipment.
Earlier, Nazar Voloshyn, Spokesperson of Khortytsia Operational-Strategic Group of Ukrainian Armed Forces, told RBC-Ukraine about the monthly losses of Russian troops in the east of Ukraine over the past five months.
