Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 31

Over the past 24 hours, 141 fierce battles have taken place on the front lines. Ukraine’s defense forces continue to hold back Russia, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian forces intensified their offensive across the entire front on May 31, with 141 combat clashes recorded, numerous missile and air strikes, and large-scale use of kamikaze drones.
Russia deployed 1,423 kamikaze drones and carried out 4,728 shelling attacks on Ukrainian military positions and civilian settlements.
Additionally, Russian forces launched 2 missile strikes, 8 air strikes, fired 2 rockets, and dropped 24 guided bombs.
Despite this, the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled most attacks on key fronts, inflicting significant losses on Russian personnel and equipment.

Pokrovsk direction
Russia conducted 36 attacks around Zoria, Nova Poltavka, Myroliubivka, Malynivka, Yelyzavetivka, Dachne, Lysivka, Udachne, Novoseriivka, Kotliarivka, Andriivka, and in the directions of Novomykolaivka, Oleksiivka, Popov Yar, and Poltavka. Seven clashes were still ongoing at the time of reporting.
Ukrainian forces neutralized about 180 troops, including 98 confirmed kills. They destroyed 14 vehicles, 5 drones, 2 ATVs, 7 motorcycles, damaged 2 cars, 1 tank, and 3 artillery systems.
Lyman direction
Russian forces attempted 18 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Zelena Dolyna, Karpivka, Novyi Myr, Hrekivka, Torske, Serebriansky Forest, and Ridkodub. Fourteen attacks were repelled, one ongoing.
Kupiansk direction
Russia launched nine assaults near Pishchane, Stepova Novoselivka, and Zahryzove. Four attacks were ongoing.
Toretsk direction
Ukrainian troops repelled eight Russian attacks near Krymske and Toretsk. One clash continues.
Kursk direction
Thirty-four combat clashes, sixteen air strikes. Russian forces dropped 34 guided bombs and conducted 213 artillery attacks, including one with multiple rocket launchers.
Overall frontline update
Russian troops continue attacks on the Kharkiv, Kupiansk, Siversk, Kramatorsk, Toretsk, Novopavlivka, Orikhiv, and Prydniprovskyi directions.
Under pressure from Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, and Pokrovsk, Russian forces are trying to expand the front and destabilize Ukrainian defenses with flanking maneuvers.
The General Staff praised the courage and professionalism of the 105th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade, the 15th Separate Mountain Assault Battalion, and the 34th Separate Coastal Defense Brigade for inflicting significant losses on the Russian side.
Over the past day, Ukrainian forces struck 14 critical Russian targets.
In May, Ukrainian troops carried out attacks on 58 targets inside Russia, including explosives factories and drone production facilities.
