Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 18

Over the past 24 hours, 167 combat engagements were recorded along the entire front line, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, yesterday the invaders launched 75 airstrikes on the positions of Ukrainian forces and populated areas, dropping 106 guided aerial bombs. In addition, they used 2,960 kamikaze drones and carried out 4,735 shelling attacks, including 122 with multiple launch rocket systems.
The aggressor carried out airstrikes, in particular, on the areas of the following settlements:
- Buniakyne in Sumy region; Kupiansk in Kharkiv region;
- Berezove in Dnipropetrovsk region;
- Kurtivka, Kostiantynivka, Bilytske, Yablunivka, Novopil in Donetsk region;
- Novodaryivka, Temyrivka, Huliaipole, Kamianske in Zaporizhzhia region;
- Mykolaivka in Kherson region.
Situation on the fronts
Over the past day, the enemy attacked three times in the Kharkiv direction, in the area of Vovchansk and towards Stroivka.
In the Kupiansk direction, there was one enemy attack during the day. The defense forces repelled an assault near Zahryzove.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked 24 times, attempting to advance near the settlements of Novoiehorivka, Lozova, Ridkodub, Hrekivka, Katerynivka, Yampolivka, and Zelena Dolyna.
In the Siversk direction, the enemy attacked our troops’ positions ten times in the areas of Bilohorivka and Verkhnokamyanske.
In the Kramatorsk direction, eight offensive actions were recorded near Chasiv Yar, Kurdiumivka, and towards Predtechyne, Stupochky, and Bila Hora.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy carried out 14 attacks in the areas of Toretsk, Ozarianivka, Dyliivka, and Druzhba.
In the Pokrovsk direction, our defenders stopped 54 assault and offensive actions of the aggressor near the settlements of Stara Mykolaivka, Yablunivka, Vozdvizhenka, Nova Poltavka, Myroliubivka, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Novoserhiyivka, Troitske, and Andriivka.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the enemy attacked our positions 23 times near Kostiantynopol, Bahatyr, Vilne Pole, Rivnopil, Novopil, Zelene Pole, and towards Komar.
In the Orikhiv direction, our defenders repelled seven enemy assaults in the areas of Shcherbaky, Stepove, and Mali Shcherbaky.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy carried out two offensive actions but had no success.
In the Kursk direction, 14 clashes took place over the past day. The enemy carried out 15 airstrikes, dropped 20 guided bombs, and conducted 224 artillery shellings, including three from multiple rocket launcher systems.
In the Huliaipole direction, no active enemy offensive actions were recorded.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, no signs of enemy offensive group formations were detected.
Enemy losses
Our soldiers continue to inflict significant losses on the occupying forces in manpower and equipment and actively undermine the enemy’s offensive potential in the rear.
Over the past day, the aviation, missile troops, and artillery of the Defense Forces struck four concentration areas of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, and four enemy artillery systems.
Overall, enemy losses for the past day amounted to 1,130 personnel. Ukrainian soldiers also destroyed one tank, four armored combat vehicles, 38 artillery systems, one multiple rocket launcher, 107 operational-tactical level UAVs, and 91 units of enemy vehicles.
