Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 16

There were 165 combat engagements on the frontline over the last day. Almost half of the combat engagements were registered in the Pokrovsk sector, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"Over the past day, aviation, missile forces and artillery of the Ukrainian Defense Forces hit 7 areas of concentration of personnel, weapons and military equipment, an ammunition depot and another important Russian target of the Russian invaders," the Ukrainian General Staff writes.
Sectors
In the Kharkiv sector, Russia conducted 6 offensives near the settlements of Vovchansk, Hlyboke, and towards Vysoka Yaruha, Dovhenke, and Kudiivka.
Russia attacked 4 times in the Kupiansk sector. Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled Russia's assault towards Pishchane and in the areas of Zahryzove and Kruhliakivka.
In the Lyman sector, Russia attacked 16 times, trying to advance in the areas of Ridkodub, Kolodiazi, Novoplatonivka, and beyond.
In the Siversk sector, 3 Russian attacks near Bilohorivka, Hryhorivka, and Verkhniokamianske were repelled.
In the Kramatorsk sector, 9 combat clashes were registered in the areas of Chasiv Yar and Kurdiumivka.
In the Toretsk sector, Russia carried out 8 attacks in the areas of Toretsk, Krymske, Dyliivka, Klishchiivka, and in the direction of Bila Hora.
In the Pokrovsk sector, Ukrainian defenders stopped 75 Russian attacks in the areas of Malynivka, Nova Poltavka, Myroliubivka, Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Myrnohrad, Troitske, Novoserhiivka, and other localities.
In the Novopavlivka sector, Ukrainian troops stopped 23 Russian attempts to break through the defensive lines near Bahatyr, Kostiantynopil, Pryvilne, and Vilne Pole.
In the Orikhiv sector, Russia conducted 3 offensives in the areas of Mali Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, and Stepove.
In the Prydniprovskyi sector, the Ukrainian Defense Forces stopped a Russian attempt to advance.
In the Kursk sector, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 14 Russian attacks yesterday.
Russia's losses in war against Ukraine
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has lost over 971,000 personnel. Over the past 24 hours alone, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have canceled out another 1,100 Russian troops. They also destroyed 13 tanks, 32 armored combat vehicles, 36 artillery systems.
