Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 15

Since the beginning of the day on May 15 until the evening, 117 combat engagements have already taken place on the front lines, with the Pokrovsk direction remaining the most intense. In that area, Ukrainian forces destroyed another Murom-M surveillance system and neutralized over 160 Russian troops, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The military command reported that Ukraine’s Defense Forces "continue to firmly repel Russian attempts to advance deeper into our territory, inflicting fire damage on them," and provided an update on the operational situation as of 10:00 PM Kyiv time on May 15.
Russian strikes
Throughout the day and into the evening, Russian forces launched 42 airstrikes on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and populated areas, dropping 65 guided aerial bombs.
They also deployed 1,104 kamikaze drones and conducted nearly 4,000 shelling attacks.
Frontline update
In the Kharkiv direction, Russian troops attempted six assaults near Vovchansk, Hlyboke, and toward Vysoka Yaruha, Dovhenke, and Kudiivka. One battle is still ongoing.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces tried to advance near Pishchane and in the areas of Zahryzove and Kruhliaivka. Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled four attacks.
In the Lyman direction, Russian troops launched 15 attacks near Ridkodub, Kolodiazi, and toward Novoplatonivka, Novoserhiivka, Olhivka, Novyi Myr, and Zelena Dolyna. Two clashes are ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three attacks near Bilohorivka, Hryhorivka, and Verkhniokamianske.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Russian troops attacked Ukrainian positions seven times near Chasiv Yar and Kurdiumivka. One battle is still ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, five assaults took place near Toretsk, Dyliivka, Klishchiivka, and toward Bila Hora. Ukrainian forces repelled four of them.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian troops attempted to advance near Malynivka, Nova Poltavka, Myroliubivka, Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Novosergiivka, Udachne, Novooleksandrivka, Andriivka, Promin, Kotlyne, Kotliarivka, Troitske, and toward Zoria, Novosergiivka, Popovyi Yar, and Stara Mykolaivka. Ukrainian forces stopped 35 assaults, with another 12 clashes ongoing.
"Preliminary data shows that 161 Russian personnel were neutralized in this direction today, including 90 irreversibly," the General Staff reported.
Ukrainian forces also destroyed six vehicles, 11 motorcycles, 12 UAVs, two electronic warfare trench systems, a satellite communication terminal, and a Murom-M surveillance station. Additionally, a tank, an artillery piece, and two more vehicles were damaged.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Russian troops attempted 14 assaults near Bahatyr, Kostiantynopil, Pryvilne, and Vilne Pole. Four clashes are still ongoing.
In the Huliaipole direction, no offensive actions were recorded. However, Russian forces launched airstrikes using unguided rockets on Vysoke and Zaliznychne.
In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three assaults near Mali Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, and Stepove. Novoiakovlivka and Mali Shcherbaky were hit by airstrikes.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, one attempt to approach Ukrainian positions was repelled.
In the Kursk direction, 13 clashes occurred, one of which is still ongoing. Russian forces conducted nine airstrikes (dropping 13 guided aerial bombs) and carried out 206 artillery attacks, including eight with multiple launch rocket systems.
Earlier, the General Staff reported the destruction of a Russian Murom-M surveillance system in the Pokrovsk direction on May 12. This mobile optoelectronic complex is designed to monitor terrain at any time of day and in various weather conditions.
Russian forces actively use the Murom-M system along the front lines to monitor Ukrainian Defense Force positions, track movements, and coordinate artillery fire.
The National Guard also previously reported the destruction of a long-range Russian thermal imaging surveillance system Murom in March.
Before that, Ukrainian forces eliminated Russian communication antennas and a Murom-M video surveillance system in the Vovchansk direction.
