Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of April 23

As of April 23, there have been 124 combat engagements along the frontline, with Russian forces intensifying pressure in the Pokrovsk, Toretsk, Lyman and Kursk directions, according to Ukraine’s General Staff.
According to the General Staff, since the beginning of the day, Russian forces have launched one missile and 76 air strikes, used four missiles, and dropped 74 KABs. Additionally, Russian forces have used 1,128 kamikaze drones and carried out 4,649 shellings of Ukrainian positions and settlements.
In the Kharkiv direction, today, Russian forces attacked four times near the settlements of Vovchansk and Vovchanski Khutory.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian forces conducted an assault on the positions of our defenders near Zahrizove.
In the Lyman direction, since the beginning of the day, Russian forces have attacked Ukrainian positions 20 times near the settlements of Nova, Hrekivka, Nadiya, and Riddkodub. Four clashes are still ongoing.
The Defense Forces stopped nine offensive actions by Russian forces near Bilohorivka and Verkhnokamianske in the Siversk direction. Three more clashes are still ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, Russian forces attacked the positions of the Defense Forces 25 times. The main focus of their offensive was in the areas of Dachne, Krymske, Toretsk, and Leonidivka. Our defenders successfully repelled 21 attacks, and fighting continues.
Since the beginning of the day in the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces have attempted to break through our defenses 43 times near the settlements of Kalynove, Zelené Pole, Novotoretske, Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Vidrodzhennya, Zvirove, Uspenivka, Nadiivka, Kotlyarivka, and Andriivka. Four clashes are still ongoing.
The Defense Forces are holding off Russian forces’ assaults, which are suffering significant losses - today, 349 Russian forces were neutralized, 174 of them irreversibly. Additionally, seven vehicles, a UAV antenna, 20 motorcycles, five drones, a ground drone, and the Russian EW position were destroyed. Furthermore, four vehicles, three motorcycles, three guns, and two mortars belonging to Russian forces were damaged.
In the Novopavlivsk direction, Ukrainian units stopped 13 Russian assault attempts near the settlements of Kostiantynopil, Rozliv, Rivnopil, and Novodarivka. One more attack by Russian forces is still ongoing.
In the Orikhiv direction, Russian forces attempted to advance three times in the areas of Stepove, Shcherbakiv, and Lobkove; fighting continues. Russian aviation struck with KABs in the areas of Stepnohirske and Novoandriivka.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Russian forces made one failed attempt to advance.
The Defense Forces of Ukraine continue to hold off Russian forces in the Kursk direction, where they carried out 23 assaults on Ukrainian positions during the day. Russian forces launched 16 airstrikes, dropping 30 guided bombs, and conducted 383 artillery shellings, 19 of which were from multiple launch rocket systems.
Russian losses in war
According to the General Staff, since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has lost over 944,000 military personnel.
In particular, over the past day, Russian forces lost 1,210 soldiers. Ukrainian fighters also destroyed eight tanks, 11 armored fighting vehicles, 85 artillery systems, and other Russian equipment.
