Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 28

As of the morning of January 28, the situation on the front remains challenging. The enemy, using its advantage in manpower and equipment, continues relentless attacks on Ukrainian positions, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
According to the General Staff, 159 combat clashes were recorded over the past day. Updated information indicates that yesterday the enemy carried out 28 airstrikes on Ukrainian positions and settlements, dropping 60 guided aerial bombs. In addition, there were over 5,000 Russian shellings, including 87 from MLRS, and the enemy deployed 2,411 kamikaze drones.
The aggressor conducted airstrikes in the areas of the following settlements:
- Bila Bereza, Zarutske in the Sumy region;
- Zaporizke in the Dnipropetrovsk region;
- Stepnohirsk in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Frontline situation
Kharkiv direction: The enemy attempted to breach Ukrainian defensive lines near Vovchansk five times.
Kupiansk direction: Russian troops launched six attacks. Ukrainian defenders repelled enemy assaults near Pishchane, Kutkivka, Petropavlivka, and Lozova.
Lyman direction: The enemy attacked ten times, attempting to break through near Novoyehorivka, Kopanky, Makiivka, Terny, Zelena Dolyna, Yampolivka, Zarichne, and Kolodyazi.
Siversk direction: Ukrainian soldiers successfully repelled one enemy attack near Bilohorivka.
Kramatorsk direction: The Russian army attacked seven times in the areas of Chasiv Yar, Stupochky, Predtechyne, and Bila Hora.
Toretsk direction: The enemy conducted 13 attacks near Toretsk, Krymske, Diliivka, and Shcherbynivka.
Pokrovsk direction: Ukrainian defenders stopped 85 enemy assault actions targeting the settlements of Vodyane Druhe, Zelene Pole, Yelizavetivka, Myrolyubivka, Sukhyi Yar, Zelene, Kotlyne, Udachne, Nadezhdynka, Kotliarivka, Uspenivka, Preobrazhenka, Bohdanivka, Baranivka, Promin, Pokrovsk, Novoandriivka, Shevchenko, Dachne, Ulakly, and Yantarne.
Novopavlivsk direction: The enemy conducted eight attacks near Novosilka, Kostyantynopil, Rozdolne, and Velyka Novosilka.
Orikhiv direction: Occupational forces launched two assaults on Ukraine`s defense positions near Novodanilivka and towards Orikhiv.
Prydniprovsk direction: Ukraine`s defense forces are making efforts to prevent the enemy from advancing deep into Ukrainian territory, having successfully repelled three enemy offensive actions.
Huliaipole direction: No active enemy actions were observed over the past day.
Volyn and Polissia directions: There were no indications of enemy offensive group formations.
In the Kursk region, Ukrainian forces continue their operation. Over the past day, the enemy launched 24 airstrikes, dropped 30 guided aerial bombs, and conducted 302 shellings, including three from multiple rocket launchers. Ukrainian defenders repelled 13 enemy assault actions.
Russian losses
Over the past day, missile forces and artillery of Ukraine`s Defense Forces struck two areas of enemy personnel concentration and two anti-aircraft missile systems.
Ukrainian soldiers are inflicting significant losses on the occupational forces in both manpower and equipment, actively undermining the enemy's offensive potential in the rear.
Overall, over the past day, the Russian losses amounted to 1,380 military personnel. Ukrainian soldiers also destroyed 5 enemy tanks, 12 armored combat vehicles, 27 artillery systems, 72 operational-tactical UAVs, 86 military vehicles, and 2 units of special equipment.
