As of 4 p.m., January 18, 89 combat engagements have taken place at the front since the beginning of the day. Most of the fighting was recorded in the Pokrovsk direction, General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
Russian shelling
Today, Russian artillery and mortar fire affected the communities of the settlements:
- Tymofiivka, Kharkiv region;
- Zaliznyi Mist, Chernihiv region;
- Popivka, Sosnivka and Progres in Sumy region.
The situation at the frontlines
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, the Russians have made 32 attempts to push our defenders from their positions near the settlements of Vodiane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Lysivka, Zelene, Shevchenko, Uspenivka, Slovianka, Andriivka, Dachne, Ulakly and Yantarne. Ukrainian defense forces are holding back the attack and repelled 28 attacks, four combat engagements are still ongoing.
In the Kharkiv direction, the invaders stormed the positions of Ukrainian troops five times near Vovchansk.
In the Kupiansk direction, the Russian troops stormed the positions of Ukrainian forces four times in the areas of Petropavlivka, Lozova, and Pishchane. Hlushkivka was hit by a guided bomb.
In the Lyman direction, the Russian army launched nine attacks on Ukrainian positions near the towns of Zelenyi Hai, Pershotravneve, Kopanky, Novoyehorivka, Novosadove, Novoliubivka, and Zarichne. Four firefights are still ongoing.
In the Kramatorsk direction, the Russians attacked four times in the areas of Chasiv Yar and Stupochky. They dropped two guided bombs on Markove.
In the Toretsk direction, 16 Russian attacks took place in the areas of Toretsk, Krymske, and Shcherbynivka. Ukrainian troops have already repelled 10 of them, and fighting continues.
In the Novopavlivka direction, Russian militants attacked 12 times near Velyka Novosilka. The fighting continues. The Russians bombed Odradne, Rozlyv, Vesele, and Temyrivka.
In the Orikhiv direction, the Russian forces made one assault on the positions of Ukrainian troops near Novodanylivka.
They also tried to storm the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the Prydniprovskyi direction once without success.
The operation in the Kursk region continues. Ukrainian soldiers repelled five attacks by the Russian troops today, and three firefights are currently underway. The Russians launched 224 artillery attacks, including four from multiple launch rocket systems.
The Russians have not conducted any active operations in the Siversk and Huliaipole directions since the beginning of the day.
The Russian army lost 1340 servicemen at the frontline over the period from January 17 to January 18. The total enemy combat losses in personnel since February 24, 2022 amount to 817,160 people.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces also destroyed 13 armored personnel carriers, 21 artillery systems, and 69 vehicles over the past day.
