The situation at the frontline as of January 16 remains tense. 124 combat engagements were recorded over the day, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Over the past day, the aviation, missile forces, and artillery of the Ukrainian Defense Forces hit 5 areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, military equipment, 4 air defense facilities, 3 command posts, 2 drone control posts, 3 artillery facilities, and an ammunition depot of the enemy.
Sectors
In the Kharkiv sector, Russian troops twice stormed the positions of Ukrainian troops in the areas of Vovchansk and Tykhe.
Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled Russia's assault near the settlements of Kindrashivka, Zahryzove, Topoli, and Petropavlivka in the Kupiansk sector, where five occupants' attacks took place over the day.
Russians attacked 16 times in the Lyman sector yesterday. They tried to break into the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defense near Kopanky, Novoserhiivka, Tverdokhlibove, Makiivka, Kolodiazi, Terny, and Hryhorivka.
In the Kramatorsk sector, Russians attacked 6 times in the areas of Stupochky, Chasiv Yar, and Predtechyno.
Russians conducted 9 attacks in the Toretsk sector in the areas of Bila Hora, Toretsk, and Krymske.
In the Pokrovsk sector, Ukrainian troops stopped 56 Russian attacks towards Baranivka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Novyi Trud, Shevchenko, Udachne, Kotlyne, Petropavlivka, Stari Terny, Yantarne, Yelyzavetivka, Lysivka, Zelene, Zvirove, Uspenivka, Andriivka and Dachne.
Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 5 Russian attacks in the Novopavlivka sector. Russian troops were most actively trying to advance near Vremivka and Kostiantynopil.
In the Orikhiv sector, Russian troops attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders four times in the areas of Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, and Shcherbaky.
Russians did not conduct any attacks in the Siversk, Huliaipole, and Prydniprovskyi sectors yesterday.
In the Kursk sector, 15 combat clashes took place, Russians launched 13 air strikes with 18 guided bombs and made 340 artillery attacks, including 15 from multiple launch rocket systems.
There were no signs of Russian offensive groups forming in the Volyn and Polissia sectors.
Pokrovsk is one of the main defense points of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in eastern Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian Defense Forces, Russian occupiers are avoiding urban battles in Pokrovsk and are trying to cut off the supply chain of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. However, there is no talk of a semi-surrounding of the city.
