As of 4 p.m. on January 4, 107 combat engagements took place at the front since the beginning of the day. Most of the fighting was recorded in the Pokrovsk direction, and overall, the situation remains complicated and tense, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Russian shelling

Today, the following localities suffered from enemy artillery shelling from the territory of Russia:

  • Oleksandrivka, Pokrovka, Yastrubshchyna, Luhivka in the Sumy region;
  • Tymofiivka, Vidrodzhenske in the Kharkiv region.

The situation at the frontlines

In the Kharkiv direction today, Russian militants stormed the defensive lines of Ukrainian troops twice near Starytsia, Ukrainian defenders repelled one Russian attack, and another battle is ongoing. In addition, the Russian military launched air strikes on the settlements of Mali Prokhody, Vovchanski Khutory and Okhrimivka.

In the Kupiansk direction, the Russian proxies actively attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops three times near Zahryzove.

On this day in the Lyman direction, the Russian army carried out 11 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Pershotravneve, Nadiia, Novosergiivka, Makiivka, Novoyehorivka, Yampolivka, Terny, Hryhorivka and in the Serebriansky forest. Four firefights are still ongoing.

In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian forces repelled seven Russian attacks in the areas of Chasiv Yar, Bila Hora, Klishchiivka and Stupochky, one combat engagement is still ongoing.

In the Toretsk direction, the Russians tried to force Ukrainian troops out of their positions in the areas of Toretsk, Dyliivka, and Shcherbynivka, where the Defense Forces repelled five Russian attacks, and two more firefights were ongoing.

Since the beginning of the day in the Pokrovsk direction, the Russian military has made 30 attempts to push Ukrainian troops from their positions in the areas of Myrne, Tymofiivka, Baranivka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Zelene, Novyi Trud, Pokrovsk, Pishchane, Shevchenko, Solone, Novoolenivka, Kotlyne and Novovasylivka. Defense forces are holding back the attack and have repelled 22 attacks so far. The adversary's losses are being clarified.

Fighting continues near Sribne, Petropavlivka, Kostiantynopil, Kurakhove, and Dachne in the Kurakhove direction. According to the updated information, nine attacks of the Russian occupation army have been repelled so far, five attacks are still ongoing.

In the Vremivka direction, two attacks of the invaders continued, in total, the Russian army made 11 attempts to advance near Dachne and Yantarne. They launched an air strike on Temyrivka and Burlatske, dropping eight guided bombs.

In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled one enemy attempt to advance near Novodanylivka.

In Russia's Kursk region, Ukrainian soldiers repelled nine Russian attacks, five of which are ongoing. In addition, the enemy launched four air strikes with nine guided bombs and fired 140 artillery shells at the positions of our troops and settlements.

The Russian proxies did not conduct any active operations in the Siversk, Huliaipole, and Prydniprovskyi directions.

Over the past 24 hours, from January 3 to January 4, the Russian army's losses in the war against Ukraine amounted to 1,510 soldiers. Thus, the Russian military has lost almost 795,000 soldiers since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, namely 794,760.
