Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 2
Since the beginning of the day, 118 combat engagements have occurred along the frontline. Ukrainian troops continue to resolutely repel Russian attempts to advance into the depths of Ukrainian territory, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the General Staff, Russian forces launched two missile strikes and 38 airstrikes, employing two missiles and 65 guided aerial bombs. Additionally, Russian troops deployed 691 kamikaze drones and carried out approximately 3,000 shelling attacks on Ukrainian military positions and settlements.
Frontline situation
In the Kharkiv direction, Ukrainian forces repelled two enemy attacks near Vovchansk. Today, they eliminated 37 Russian troops and destroyed 32 drones, an ammunition storage site, and a communication system. Ukrainian forces also damaged an artillery system and three vehicles.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy conducted three assaults near Zapadne, Dvorichna, and Kruhliakivka. Ukrainian defenders repelled one attack, while two others are ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces launched 16 attacks near Nadiia, Makiivka, Terny, Hryhorivka, and the Serebryansky forest. Currently, four battles are underway.
In the Siversk direction, the enemy attempted an assault near Bilohorivka but failed to succeed.
In the Kramatorsk direction, six combat engagements were recorded near Chasiv Yar and Stupochky. Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled four attacks while two battles continued.
In the Toretsk direction, Russian forces carried out eight attacks, focusing their efforts near Toretsk, New York, and Shcherbynivka. Two engagements are still ongoing.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy attempted 27 assaults near Myroliubivka, Lysivka, Novyi Trud, Pishchane, Shevchenko, Uspenivka, Solone, and Novovasylivka. One battle remains active.
Russian forces are suffering significant losses. Today, Ukrainian troops neutralized 259 Russian soldiers in this direction, including 113 killed. Additionally, they destroyed an infantry fighting vehicle, two cars, a UAV control antenna, a satellite communication system, and a motorcycle. Ukrainian defenders also damaged two Russian vehicles.
In the Kurakhove direction, the enemy launched 22 attacks near Slovianka, Petropavlivka, Shevchenko, Dachne, and Kurakhove. Five battles are ongoing.
In the Vremivka direction, Russian forces conducted 20 assaults near Yantarne, Vremivka, Velyka Novosilka, and in the directions of Kostiantynopol, Rozlyv, and Novosilka. Six engagements are still underway.
In the Orikhiv direction, Ukrainian troops repelled two enemy attacks near Novoandriivka.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, the enemy launched two unsuccessful assaults on Ukrainian positions.
In Russia's Kursk region, Ukrainian forces repelled seven enemy attacks. Two battles are still in progress.
The situation on other fronts remains largely unchanged.
Earlier, it was reported that on January 1, Russian forces lost 1,370 personnel at the frontline. Ukrainian troops also destroyed four tanks, 13 armored fighting vehicles, 20 artillery systems, 69 tactical-level drones, 54 vehicles, and three pieces of special equipment.
