Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 29

As of 10:00 PM on December 29 (Kyiv time), 171 combat engagements were registered at the frontline over the last day. Russia is focusing its main offensive efforts in the Pokrovsk, Kurakhove, and Vremivka directions and is actively attacking in the Lyman direction, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy shelling
Today, Russian forces carried out six airstrikes, dropping nine guided aerial bombs. Additionally, they deployed 752 kamikaze drones and conducted over 4,100 attacks on Ukrainian military positions and civilian settlements.
Frontline situation
In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces launched a single assault on Ukrainian positions near Hatyshche. The attack was repelled, and the enemy failed to advance.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy attacked six times. Ukrainian forces successfully defended positions near Petropavlivka, Kucherivka, and Lozova, repelling all enemy assaults.
In the Lyman direction, Russian troops attacked Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Hrekivka, Zelenyi Hai, Platonivka, Pershotravneve, Nadiia, Makiivka, Terny, Yampilivka, Ivanivka, and Bilohorivka. Ukrainian forces repelled 23 enemy assaults, with three clashes still ongoing.
In the Siversk direction, Russian forces made one unsuccessful attempt to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions near Zolotarivka.
In the Kramatorsk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled seven enemy attacks near Chasiv Yar and Stupochky. Two clashes remain ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, Russian forces attempted seven assaults near Shcherbynivka and Toretsk. Two attacks are still underway.
In the Pokrovsk direction, the enemy carried out 40 assaults throughout the day on Ukrainian positions near Zelenе Pole, Vozdvyzhenka, Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Dachenske, Novyi Trud, Vovkove, Solone, Novoolenivka, Novovasylivka, and Novoyelyzavetivka. Eight battles are still ongoing.
"According to available information, the enemy's losses in this direction today amounted to 482 personnel killed and wounded. One infantry fighting vehicle, two vehicles, and one motorcycle were destroyed. Additionally, two tanks, six armored fighting vehicles, and three vehicles were significantly damaged," the General Staff reported.
In the Kurakhove direction, Russian forces launched 18 assaults near Ukrainka, Slovianka, Petropavlivka, Kurakhove, and Dachne. Three attacks are ongoing.
"Enemy's losses in this direction include 74 personnel killed and wounded, as well as one tank, one infantry fighting vehicle, and one vehicle destroyed. Additionally, three armored vehicles and one mortar were damaged," the General Staff added.
In the Vremivka direction, the enemy launched 19 assaults on Ukrainian defenses near Kostiantynopolske, Yantarne, Uspenivka, Kostiantynopol, and Pryvilne. Two clashes are still underway.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Ukrainian forces repelled one enemy attack.
In the Orikhiv and Huliaipole directions, no active combat operations were reported by the enemy.
In Russia's Kursk region, Ukrainian forces continue their operations. Today, Ukrainian troops repelled 38 enemy assaults in this direction.
"Today, we commend the effective combat performance of the 44th Separate Artillery Brigade named after Hetman Danylo Apostol and the 124th Separate Territorial Defense Battalion," the General Staff concluded.
Notably, on December 28, there were 158 combat engagements at the frontline on December 28. On that day, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out several strikes on key Russian targets.
