Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 21

As of 16:00, December 21, 110 combat engagements have taken place at the front since the beginning of the day. In the Kursk region alone, the enemy made 32 attempts to storm the city, and the fighting is still ongoing, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Enemy shelling
The General Staff noted that Russians continue to destroy Ukrainian cities and villages with missile, air, and artillery strikes. In particular, today the following communities suffered from enemy artillery, mortars, and multiple rocket launchers:
- Leonivka and Hai in Chernihiv region;
- Porozok and Bachivsk in Sumy region.
Situation at the frontlines
In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy once stormed the positions of our units, and the battle is ongoing near Kozacha Lopan.
In the Kupiansk direction, the Russians attacked the Defense Forces once near Petropavlivka and were repulsed.
In the Lyman direction, the invading army launched 12 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Zelenyi Hai, Hrekivka, Terny, and Ivanivka. Nine battles are still ongoing. The enemy launched air strikes on Ivanivka and Yampolivka with guided bombs and hit the village of Nadiya with unguided missiles. Ukrainian soldiers are steadfastly holding the line and inflicting losses on the enemy.
Russian troops continue to look for weaknesses in our defense near Verkhnekamianske and Bilohorivka in the Siversk direction. Since the beginning of the day, there have been two futile enemy assaults here. The enemy dropped five guided aerial bombs on Siversk.
In the Kramatorsk direction, since the beginning of the day, Russian aviation has been attacking Markove, Kostiantynivka, and Chasiv Yar with guided aerial bombs. Ukrainian defenders repelled two enemy attacks in the direction of Stupochky.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy tried to break into our defense four times in the areas of Toretsk and Druzhba. The enemy is actively using aviation. He attacked Romanivka and Katerynivka with guided bombs.
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian invaders made 15 attempts to push our defenders from their positions in the areas of Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Zelene, Novyi Trud, Dachenske and Novovasylivka. The defense forces are holding back the onslaught and repelled seven enemy attacks, eight combat engagements are still ongoing. Oleksandropil, Pokrovsk, Lysivka, Sukhyi Yar, Udachne, and Zvirove came under Russian aerial bombardment.
The enemy army attacked the Kurakhove direction nine times near Stari Terny, Kurakhove, and Dachne. Seven attempts to advance have already been repelled.
In the Vremivka sector, 26 enemy attacks took place near Uspenivka, Yantarne, Novosilka, Blahodatne, and in the direction of Rozlyv and Odradne. The enemy is most active in the vicinity of Kostiantynopolske, where 14 combat engagements took place. Three battles are still ongoing. The aggressor launched an air strike on Temyrivka, dropping a guided bomb.
In the Orikhiv direction, the Russians stormed the positions of the Defense Forces near Novoandriivka and Pyatikhatky six times. One firefight is ongoing.
In the Kursk region, Ukrainian defenders repelled 19 enemy attacks, and in total, the invaders have made 32 assaults on the positions of our troops today.
In other areas, the situation remains unchanged.
Losses of the Russian army
As of the morning of December 21, Russia has lost 1860 soldiers in the war against Ukraine over the past 24 hours. In total, Russian army losses since the beginning of the full-scale war have exceeded 772 thousand soldiers.
Also, over the past day, the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 10 tanks, 32 artillery systems, and 98 units of enemy vehicles.
