Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of September 16
A total of 153 combat engagements took place on the front lines in Ukraine over the past 24 hours, with the heaviest fighting concentrated in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhove directions — 40 and 42 attacks, respectively, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the Kharkiv direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian defensive positions near Vovchansk twice.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy launched ten assaults in the areas of Novoosynove, Synkivka, and Lozova. Ukrainian defenders repelled six attacks, while four remain ongoing.
In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions 21 times in the areas of Hrekivka, Druzhelyubivka, Makiivka, Nevske, Novosadove, Lozova, Bilohorivka, and in the Serebryansky forest. Four battles are currently underway.
In the Siversk direction, the enemy advanced in the areas of Ivano-Daryivka and Pereizne. Ukrainian defenders halted three Russian attacks.
In the Kramatorsk direction, one battle continues near Vasukivka, while five enemy assaults have been repelled by Ukrainian forces.
In the Toretsk direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian defensive positions 16 times near Nelipivka, Druzhba, Toretsk, and Zalizne. Ukrainian troops repelled 13 attacks, while three battles continued.
In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, Russian forces attempted 40 assaults near Vozdvyzhenka, Hrodivka, Novohrodivka, Marynivka, and Krasnyi Yar. Two battles are still ongoing.
The enemy is suffering significant losses — 188 Russian personnel were neutralized today, 74 of whom were killed. Additionally, an armored fighting vehicle and three cars were destroyed, while a BMP and another vehicle were damaged.
In the Kurakhove direction, the enemy remains active, launching 42 attacks on Ukrainian positions near Ukrainske, Tsukuryne, Zhelanne Pershe, Heorhiivka, Kostiantynivka, and Katerynivka. Four battles are still ongoing.
In the Vremivka direction, Russian forces launched offensive actions near Vuhledar, Katerynivka, Vodiane, and Kostiantynivka. They failed in three engagements, while four assaults continued.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy made one unsuccessful attempt to advance toward Ukrainian positions near Robotyne.
In the Prydniprovskyi direction, Russian forces tried five times to dislodge Ukrainian units from their positions, all without success.
In other directions, the situation has not significantly changed.
It is worth noting that, according to a report from the Institute for the Study of War on September 15, Russian forces made advances in the Siversk and Pokrovsk directions and near Vuhledar in the Donetsk region. Additionally, Russian forces reclaimed a settlement in Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukrainian forces have also made progress.
