Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of September 8

The number of combat engagements in the frontline has increased to 95 since the beginning of the day. The situation is the most intense in the Kurakhove and Pokrovsk sectors, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
The General Staff noted that the enemy continues to destroy Ukrainian cities and villages with air and artillery strikes. In particular, today the enemy has intensified the use of aviation in the border areas of Sumy region. Currently, there are 7 known air strikes with the use of 16 guided aerial bombs. Thus, the areas of Yampil, Bereza, Bachivsk, Kniazhychi, Kindrativka, Pervomaiske, and the city of Sumy came under enemy attack.
Situation at the frontlines
The Ukrainian Defense Forces are taking all necessary measures to prevent a breakthrough. As of 16:00, September 8, the situation on the battlefield is as follows.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian troops unsuccessfully tried eleven times to storm Ukrainian positions near Synkivka, Stepova Novosilka, Hlushkivka, Lozova, and Stelmakhivka.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy attacked in the areas of Nevske, Novosadove, Torske, Dibrova, and Cherneshchyna. In total, there have been nine combat engagements in this sector since the beginning of the day, and three are still ongoing. The situation is under control.
The enemy continues to try to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops in the Siversk direction but is receiving a worthy rebuff from the defenders of Ukraine. Thus, near Verkhnekamianske and Hryhorivka, the enemy tried to push the Ukrainian Defense Forces units five times, two assaults are currently ongoing.
In the Kramatorsk direction, since the beginning of the day, Russian troops have tried five times to drive Ukrainian Armed Forces units from their positions. The enemy's attacks were repelled near Andriivka and Klishchiivka, and three attacks took place near Mayske, one of which is still ongoing.
In the Toretsk direction, the enemy attacked Ukrainian troops' positions 12 times with the support of attack and bomber aircraft. A firefight is currently ongoing near Nelipivka.
The situation in the Pokrovsk direction remains tense. Fierce fighting is taking place in the areas of Zelene Pole, Vozdvyzhenka, Novotroitske, Hrodivka, Novohrodivka, Selidove, and Mykhailivka. So far, the enemy has made 23 assaults on Ukrainian positions. Fighting continues in six locations.
In the Kurakhove direction, the invader has attacked Ukrainian troops 19 times since the beginning of the day. He tried to advance near Krasnohorivka, Dolynivka, Ukrayinka, Heorhiivka, and Kostiantynivka.
In the Vremivka direction, two enemy assaults towards Vodiane were repelled, and another battle is underway.
In the vicinity of Mala Tokmachka and Robotyne in the Orikhiv direction, the enemy tried to advance twice but was fiercely rebuffed. The enemy also used aircraft in Lobkove.
“The Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is taking all necessary measures to deter the enemy's offensive and stabilize the situation,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces added.
As a reminder, Russia's losses in the war against Ukraine from September 7 to 8 amounted to 1270 soldiers. In total, since the beginning of the full-scale war, the enemy has lost about 625,260 soldiers.
