Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of April 21
Over the last day, 65 combat engagements were registered in the frontline. Ukrainian troops repelled 13 attacks in the Bakhmut sector and shot down two Kh-59 cruise missiles, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
In total, the enemy launched 4 missile and 37 air strikes, fired 49 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of our troops and populated areas.
Situation at the frontlines
The operational situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions remained unchanged. No signs of the formation of enemy offensive groups were detected.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shells settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. More than 10 localities came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Stepok and Turya in Chernihiv region; Stara Huta in Sumy region; Veterynarne, Hatyshche, Pletenivka in Kharkiv region.

In the Lyman direction, the Defense Forces repelled nine attacks near Terny, Donetsk region. The enemy launched air strikes near Nevske, Luhansk region; Novosadove, Yampolivka, Donetsk region. More than 10 localities suffered from artillery and mortar attacks, including Nevske in Luhansk region and Terny, Yampolivka, Torske in Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, our troops repelled 13 attacks in the areas of Bilohorivka, Luhansk region; Verkhnekamianske, Bohdanivka, Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to improve the tactical situation. About 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Hryhorivka, Kalynivka, Chasiv Yar, Stupochky in Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 9 attacks in the areas of Ocheretyne, Berdychi, Umanske, Yasnobrodivka and Pervomayske in Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to force our units out of their positions. The enemy also launched air strikes near the towns of Solovyovo, Oleksandropil, Semenivka, Netaylovo in Donetsk Oblast. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire, including Ocheretyne, Novobakhmutivka, and Umanske in the Donetsk region.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, Vodiane and Urozhayne in Donetsk region, where the enemy tried to break through the defense of our troops 15 times. The enemy launched air strikes near the settlements of Kostiantynivka, Katerynivka, Antonivka in Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Krasnohorivka, Maksymilianivka, Kostiantynivka, and Vuhledar in the Donetsk region.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy, with the support of aviation, attacked the positions of our defenders 3 times near Staromayorske in Donetsk region and Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia region. About 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Chervone, Novodanylivka, and Pyatikhatky in Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy does not abandon its intention to push our units out of the footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Thus, during the day, he made one unsuccessful attack on the positions of our troops near the village of Krynky, Kherson region. The enemy launched an air strike near the village of Vesele, Kherson region. About 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Olgivka, Lvov, Ivanivka, Tokarivka in Kherson region.

Over the course of the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck 9 areas where enemy personnel, weapons and military equipment were concentrated. Ukrainian air defense forces also destroyed 2 Kh-59 guided missiles.
