Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of April 12

In Ukraine, on the front line, there were 78 battle confrontations over the past day. The aggressor's forces are attempting to break through in the Bakhmut and Novopavlivka directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
Overall, the enemy conducted 54 missile and 126 aviation strikes, as well as 95 shelling attacks from multiple launch rocket systems on the positions of our troops and civilian areas. Unfortunately, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population as a result of Russian terrorist attacks. Several high-rise buildings and other objects of civil infrastructure have been destroyed or damaged.
During the night, Russian occupiers once again attacked Ukraine. With the forces and means of Ukraine's air defense, 16 out of 17 Shahed-type UAVs were destroyed.
During the past day, the following settlements were subjected to aerial strikes:
- Hremiach, Chernihiv region;
- the city of Sumy;
- Borova, Kharkiv region;
- Tverdokhlibove and Bilohorivka, Luhansk region;
- Verkhniokamyanske, Spirne, Ivanivske, Klischiivka, Andriivka, Pivdenne, Rozdolivka, Terni, Yampolivka, Novobakhmutivka, Berdychi, Umanske, Karlivka, Nevelske, Krasnohorivka, Kostiantynivka, Vodiane, New York, Semenivka, Netailove, Vremivka, and Urozhaine, Donetsk region;
- Novodanylivka, Zaporizhzhia region.
Over 110 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions were under artillery fire.
Frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains largely unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage activities to prevent the transfer of our troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border.
In the Kupiansk and Lyman directions, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions.
In the Bakhmut direction, our soldiers repelled 29 attacks in the areas of the settlements Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region; Vyimka, Rozdolivka, Klischiivka, Verkhniokamyanske, and Ivanivske in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to improve its tactical position.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 7 attacks near the settlements Novokalynove, Umanske, Pervomaiske, and Netailove in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to dislodge our units from their occupied positions.
In the Novopavlivka direction, our military continues to hold back the enemy in the areas of the settlements Krasnohorivka, Novomykhailivka, and Urozhainе, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, attempted 26 times to break through the defense of our troops.
In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy attacked the positions of our defenders 5 times in the area of Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy persists in its intention to dislodge our units from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River. During the past day, the enemy carried out 7 unsuccessful attacks on the positions of our troops.
Enemy losses
During the past day, the Air Defense Forces conducted strikes on 12 areas of concentration of personnel, armament, and military equipment, as well as 1 anti-aircraft missile system of the enemy.
Rocket troops units targeted 1 air defense system, 1 electronic warfare station, and 2 areas of concentration of enemy personnel.
Night attack on Ukraine
During the night of April 12, the enemy attacked Ukraine with 17 Shahed-131/136 UAVs and a guided aviation missile X-59 from the airspace of the occupied Donetsk region.
Explosions were heard in the Khmelnytskyi region. Near Kryvyi Rih, a fire broke out at an energy facility due to the fall of debris.
