Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of April 2

Ukrainian troops repelled 18 Russian attacks in the Bakhmut direction, held their positions, and repelled the Russian occupation forces' assaults in the Kherson direction. Ukrainian aviation struck 1 Russian ground control station for drones, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
Over the past day, 71 combat engagements took place. In total, Russia launched 8 missile and 93 air strikes, fired 126 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
Air strikes were carried out in:
- Popivka, Chernihiv region;
- Seredyna-Buda, Luhivka, Sumy region;
- Kozacha Lopan, Vovchansk, Okhrymivka, Kupyansk, Sadove, Tabaivka, Cherneshchyna in Kharkiv region;
- Stelmakhivka, Bilohorivka, Luhansk region;
- Pishchane, Terny, Spirne, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Oleksandropil, Umanske, Yasnobrodivka, Novobakhmutivka, Novoselivka Persha, Karlivka, Orlivka, Ocheretyne, Vodiane, Novomykhailivka, Urozhaine, Zolota Nyva in Donetsk region;
- Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia region,
- Mykilske in Kherson region.
Over 120 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions were under artillery fire.
Situation at frontlines
The operational situation remains unchanged in the Volyn and Polissia direction.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske direction, Russia maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border.
Russians did not conduct any offensive (assault) actions in the Kupiansk direction.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian troops repelled nine Russian attacks near Terny, Donetsk region, where the Russians, supported by air power, tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops.
In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 18 Russian attacks in the areas of Bilohorivka, Luhansk region; Spirne, Ivano-Dariivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Chasiv Yar, Donetsk region, where the Russians, supported by air, tried to improve the tactical situation.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 10 Russian attacks in the vicinity of Berdychi and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region, where Russians tried to drive Ukrainian units out of their positions.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the Russian troops in the areas of Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, Velyka Novosilka, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, where the Russians, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops more than 25 times.
In the Orikhiv direction, the Russian occupants made 4 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders near Staromayorske in the Donetsk region and northwest of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, the Russians do not abandon their intention to drive Ukrainian units from the footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Over the past day, he attacked the positions of our troops 4 times.
Russian losses
Over the past day, the aviation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck 1 control point and 7 areas of concentration of Russian personnel, weapons, and military equipment.
The Ukrainian missile troops' units struck 1 Russian ground control station for unmanned aerial vehicles, 1 air defense facility, 2 electronic warfare stations, 1 ammunition depot, and 1 area of enemy concentration.
The total number of Russian army losses since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine is 442,880.
