Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of March 17

Ukrainian forces repelled 11 enemy attacks in the Avdiyiv direction, held their positions and repelled the assaults of the occupying troops in the Kherson direction. Missile forces hit the enemy's control point, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
During the past day, there have been 58 combat engagements. In total, the enemy carried out 6 missile and 62 aviation strikes, as well as 125 shelling attacks with rocket artillery on the positions of our troops and civilian areas.
As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population.
Aviation strikes hit:
- Velyka Pysarivka, Stara Huta, Ryzhivka, Popivka, Yamne, Oleksandrivka, Luhivka in the Sumy region;
- Starytsia, Lyptsi in the Kharkiv region;
- Novoiehorivka in the Luhansk region;
- Spirne, Vesele, Rozdolivka, Chasiv Yar, Druzhba, Oleksandropil, Semenivka, Umanske, Ocheretyne, Krasnohorivka, Kostyantynivka, Heorgiivka, Novomykhailivka, Vodyane, Urozhaine, Makarivka, Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk region.
About 140 settlements in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions were under artillery fire.
Frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation remains largely unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts subversive activities to prevent the deployment of our troops to threatening directions, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the areas near the settlements of Stara Huta and Brusky in the Sumy region, our defenders have halted 2 attempts of enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups infiltration.
In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions.
In the Lyman direction, our troops repelled 1 enemy attack in the area of the settlements of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, our defenders repelled 5 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Ivanivske and Klishchiivka, and east of Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 11 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Berdychi, Tonenke, Pervomaiske and Nevelske.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the Defense Forces continued to hold back the enemy in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, and Novomykhailivka, and east of Vodyane in the Donetsk region, where the enemy attempted to break through our troops' defense 28 times.
In the Orikhiv direction, the occupiers attacked the positions of our defenders 4 times in the areas of Robotyne and northwest of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy is not giving up on its intention to dislodge our units from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro. During the past day, there were 2 unsuccessful attempts to storm the positions of our troops.
At the same time, our soldiers continue active operations to inflict losses on the occupying forces in personnel and equipment, wearing down the enemy along the entire front line.
Enemy losses
During the past day, the Defense Forces aviation struck 4 areas of concentration of enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment.
Missile units inflicted damage on a command post, 2 areas of concentration of enemy personnel, and 1 air defense asset.
The total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion amounts to 429,580 military personnel.
