Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of March 16

Ukrainian forces repelled 24 enemy attacks in the Novopavlivka direction, held their positions, and repelled assaults by occupying forces in the Kherson direction. Aviation struck 7 areas where enemy personnel were concentrated, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
During the past day, there have been 78 combat engagements. In total, the enemy carried out 10 missile and 68 aviation strikes, as well as 89 shelling attacks with rocket artillery on the positions of our troops and civilian areas.
As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population.
Aviation strikes hit:
- Popivka, Vilne, Oleksandrivka, Velyka Pysarivka, Lukashivka, Dmytrivka in the Sumy region;
- Baranivka, Zolochiv, Pokalyane, Petropavlivka in the Kharkiv region;
- Nadiia, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region;
- Siversk, Semenivka, Kalynivka, Chasiv Yar, Keramik, Novobakhmutivka, Novoselivka Persha, Orlivka, Umanske, Krasnohorivka, Heorhiyivka, Pobieda, Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region;
- Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Close to 100 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions were under artillery fire.
Frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissya directions, the operational situation remains largely unchanged.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas and carries out sabotage activities to prevent the redeployment of our troops to threatened directions.
In the Kupiansk direction, the Defense Forces repelled 3 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Synkivka and Tabaivka in the Kharkiv region, where the enemy tried to improve its tactical position.
In the Lyman direction, our troops repelled 9 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Terni and Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, supported by aviation, tried to break through our troops' defense.
In the Bakhmut direction, our defenders repelled 3 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Andriivka and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 26 enemy attacks in the areas of the settlements of Berdychi, Orlivka, Tonenke, and Pervomaiske.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the Defense Forces continued to hold back the enemy in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, and Novomykhailivka, where the enemy, supported by aviation, attempted to break through our troops' defense 24 times.
In the Orikhiv direction, the occupiers attacked the positions of our defenders 7 times in the areas of Staromaiorske in the Donetsk region and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, the enemy is not giving up on its intention to dislodge our units from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro. During the past day, there were 3 unsuccessful attempts to storm the positions of our troops.
At the same time, our soldiers continue active operations to inflict losses on the occupying forces in personnel and equipment, wearing down the enemy along the entire front line.
Enemy losses
During the past day, the Defense Forces aviation struck 7 areas where enemy personnel were concentrated.
The total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion is 428,420 military personnel.
