Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of February 23

In Ukraine, 101 combat engagements took place in the frontline over the last day. The enemy is pressing and trying to storm the settlements at the Lyman, Bakhmut, Maryinka, and Avdiivka directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
The enemy launched 3 missile and 83 air strikes and fired 152 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks resulted in injuries and deaths among the civilian population. Multi-storey and private houses, as well as other civilian infrastructure facilities, were destroyed and damaged.
At night, the Russian occupiers attacked Ukraine using missiles and Shahed UAVs. The Ukrainian Air Defense Forces destroyed 23 attack UAVs.
The settlements of Rozdolivka, Vesele, Berdychi, Semenivka, Orlivka, Lastochkino, Tonenke, Kostiantynivka, Oleksandropil, Krasnohorivka, Kurakhove, Paraskoviivka, Novomykhailivka, Vuhledar and Staromaiorske in Donetsk region were hit by air strikes.
More than 125 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.
Situation at frontlines
The operational situation remains unchanged in the Volyn and Polissia direction.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske direction, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of our troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the Kupiansk direction, Russians made 5 attempts to attack near the town of Synkivka in the Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 14 attacks near Terny and Yampolivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, our troops repelled 16 enemy attacks near Andriivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiyivka, and Toretsk in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 10 enemy attacks near Orlivka, Sieverne, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Novomykhailivka and Pobeda in the Donetsk region, where the enemy tried to break through the defense of our troops 43 times.
In the Novopavlivka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled three enemy attacks south of Zolota Nyva in the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 5 Russian attacks west of Verbove and near Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to expand their foothold. Despite significant losses, the enemy continues to try to drive our units from their positions. Thus, over the past day, the enemy made 5 attempts to storm the positions of our troops on the left bank of the Dnipro River.
Russian losses
Over the past day, the aviation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck 6 areas of concentration of personnel and 3 enemy anti-aircraft missile systems.
Ukrainian missile troops struck 4 areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, 1 logistics hub, 2 air defense facilities, and 1 ground control station of enemy UAVs.
