Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of February 17

Russian occupants continue to attack the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Ukrainian settlements. At the same time, the Ukrainian military destroyed three Russian aircraft today, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
Within the last day, 63 combat engagements took place. In total, the enemy launched 4 missile and 61 air strikes, fired 79 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of our troops and populated areas.
Russian terrorist attacks resulted in injuries and deaths among the civilian population. Multi-storey and private buildings, medical facilities, and critical infrastructure facilities were destroyed and damaged.
Situation at the frontlines
The operational situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions remained unchanged. There are no signs of the formation of offensive groups. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shells settlements from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine.
The enemy conducted air strikes near the settlements of Stohnii, Chorne, Sadovod in the Kharkiv region. More than 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Karpovychi and Leonivka in the Chernihiv region; Seredyna-Buda, Vilna Sloboda, Holyshivske, Veselivka, Mohrytsia, Mykhailivske, Yizdetske in the Sumy region; Guryev Kozachok, Veterynarne, Vovchanski Khutory, Bochkove, Kruhle, Ozerne in the Kharkiv region.
The enemy did not conduct offensive actions in the Kupiansk direction. They conducted air strikes in the areas of Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestove in the Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, our soldiers repelled 7 attacks near Bilohorivka, the Luhansk region, and Terny, Yampolivka, the Donetsk region, where the enemy, supported by aviation, tried to break through the defense of our troops.
The occupiers also carried out air strikes near the town of Makiivka and Serebryanske forestry in the Luhansk region. More than 10 settlements suffered from enemy artillery and mortar attacks, including Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, Terny, Torske, Serebryanka, Verkhnekamianske, Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled 7 attacks in the areas of Ivanivske, Klishchiyivka, Andriivka in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to improve the tactical situation. About 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire, including Vasyukivka, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, and New York in the Donetsk Oblast.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 14 enemy attacks near Lastochkyne, the Donetsk region. The enemy also launched an air strike near Orlivka, the Donetsk region. Up to 20 localities came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Lastochkyne and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy near Heorhiivka, Pobeda, Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Here, the invaders, supported by aviation, tried to break through the defense of our troops 21 times. Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, Paraskoviivka and Kostiantynivka came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Novopavlivka direction, our defenders repelled two attacks south of Prechystivka and west of Staromayorsk in the Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to improve the tactical situation. The enemy also launched an air strike near Vuhledar, Donetsk region. About 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire, including Vodiane, Zolota Nyva, Staromayorske, and Rivne in the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repelled four enemy attacks west of Verbove and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region. The enemy also launched an air strike near Novodarivka, Zaporizhzhia region. More than 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Levadne, Malynivka, Zaliznychne, Charivne, Novoandriivka, and Lobkove in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Kherson foothold
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa Joint Forces Operation Center in the Kherson direction, the enemy does not give up its intention to drive our units from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River.
Thus, during the day they made 2 attempts to storm the positions of our troops. Beryslav, Antonivka, Sofiyivka in the Kherson region, and Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region came under artillery and mortar fire. The enemy also shelled the city of Kherson with multiple launch rocket systems.
Russian losses
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck 14 areas of concentration of personnel and 3 enemy anti-aircraft missile systems. Also, in the eastern sector, units of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed three enemy aircraft at once: two Su-34 fighter bombers and one Su-35 fighter.
Missile troops struck at 1 control center, 4 artillery pieces, 4 ammunition depots, and 1 enemy electronic warfare station.
