Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 24
Ukrainian defenders repelled 16 enemy attacks in the Avdiivka direction and continued efforts to expand their foothold in the Kherson direction. Ukrainian missile troops hit 2 Russian air defense systems, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
Over the past day, 56 combat engagements took place. In total, the enemy launched 48 missile and 112 air strikes and fired 73 times from multiple launch rocket systems at the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas.
Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties, including children. More than 200 civilian infrastructure facilities in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, Kharkiv, and Pavlohrad in the Dnipropetrovsk region were destroyed and damaged.
Air strikes were carried out in:
- Kozacha Lopan, Liptsi, Gatyshche in the Kharkiv region;
- Makiivka, Bilohorivka, and Serebrianske forestry in the Luhansk region;
- Terny, Serebrianka, Siversk, Bohdanivka, Avdiivka, Novomykhailivka, Kostiantynivka, Urozhaine in Donetsk region;
- Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia region;
- Kachkarivka, Milove, Beryslav in the Kherson region.
More than 150 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.
Frontline situation
The operational situation remains unchanged in the Volyn and Polissia directions.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the deployment of our troops to threatened areas, and increases the density of minefields along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the Kupiansk direction, our defenders repelled an enemy attack near Synkivka, Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 4 occupants' attacks near Yampolivka and Torske in the Donetsk region and 2 more attacks near Bilohorivka and Serebrianske forestry in the Luhansk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled three enemy attacks near Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, and Klishchiivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the enemy, who keeps trying to encircle Avdiivka. Our soldiers are steadfastly holding the line, inflicting significant losses on the Russian invaders.
Over the past day, Ukrainian defense forces repelled 5 enemy attacks in Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, and Avdiivka, and 11 more attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy near Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where they repelled 16 attacks.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not conduct any offensive (assault) actions.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 4 enemy attacks south of Chervone, west of Verbove, and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to expand their bridgehead. Despite significant losses, the enemy continues to try to drive Ukrainian units from their positions. Over the past day, the enemy made 7 unsuccessful assaults on the positions of our troops.
At the same time, our soldiers continue to actively inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the Russian occupation forces, depleting the enemy along the entire front line.
Enemy losses
During the day, the aviation of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck at 10 areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, 2 anti-aircraft missile systems, and 1 enemy control center.
The Ukrainian air defense forces also destroyed 15 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles, 5 Iskander-M ballistic missiles, and 2 Kh-59 guided missiles.
Missile units struck at 1 area of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, 2 air defense systems, 9 artillery pieces, and 1 enemy electronic warfare station.
The total number of Russian army losses since the beginning of the invasion is 377,820.
