Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 23

In Ukraine, there were 68 military clashes on the front line over a day. Defense Forces repelled Russian attacks near the village of Terniv in the Donetsk region, as well as countering enemy assaults in the Kherson direction, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
In total, the enemy carried out 3 missile and 65 aviation strikes, conducting 56 shelling attacks from multiple rocket launcher systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population as a result of Russian terrorist attacks. Residential private houses and other civilian infrastructure have suffered damage and destruction.
In the morning, Russian occupiers launched a missile strike with 4 guided missiles from the S-300/400 air defense systems targeting the civilian infrastructure of the cities of Kharkiv and Balakliia in the Kharkiv region.
The following locations were affected by aviation strikes: Hranitne, Hryhorivka, Pishchane in the Kharkiv region; Novoiehorivka, Bilohorivka, Serebrianske Forestry Area in the Luhansk region; Terni, Rozdolivka, Bohdanivka, Khromove, Klishchiivka, Bila Hora, Maiorske, Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka, Vodiane, Novomykhailivka, Staromykhailivka in the Donetsk region; Novodarivka in the Zaporizhzhia region; Kachkariivka, Chervonyi Mayak, Zmiyivka, Berislav in the Kherson region.
Over 140 populated areas in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.
Frontline situation
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains without significant changes.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the movement of our troops to threatening directions, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 4 enemy attacks in the area of the settlement of Synkivka in the Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, the Defense Forces repelled an attack by invaders near Terniv in the Donetsk region and another 5 attacks near Makiivka, Bilohorivka, and Serebrianske Forestry Area in the Luhansk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, our troops repelled 7 enemy attacks near Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to restrain the enemy, who does not cease attempts to encircle Avdiivka. Our soldiers hold the defense steadfastly, inflicting significant losses on the invaders. During the past day, the defense forces repelled 10 enemy attacks in the areas of Stepove, Avdiivka, and another 7 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, defenders continue to restrain the enemy near Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where 21 attacks were repelled.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack near Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the Kherson direction, defenders continue to expand the foothold. Despite significant losses, the enemy does not cease attempts to dislodge our units from occupied positions. During the past day, the enemy carried out 1 unsuccessful assault on the positions of Ukrainian Forces.
Enemy losses
During the day, the Air Force delivered strikes on 8 areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment of the enemy. Also, with the forces and means of the air defense of Ukraine, one guided aviation missile Kh-59 was destroyed.
Missile troops delivered strikes on 1 command post, 1 artillery piece, and 1 radar station of the enemy.
