Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 21

Russian invaders made six unsuccessful assaults on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the left bank of the Dnipro River, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult.
Within the last day, 59 combat engagements took place. In total, the enemy launched four missile and 69 air strikes and fired 50 MLRS at Ukrainian troops' positions and populated areas.
Russian terrorist attacks resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.
Situation at the frontline
The situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions remained unchanged. No signs of the formation of offensive groups were detected. Certain units of the Belarusian armed forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shells populated areas from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine.
In the Kupiansk direction, our defenders repelled seven attacks near Synkivka, Kharkiv region, where the enemy tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops.
In the Lyman direction, our defenders repelled four attacks near Terny, Yampolivka in Donetsk region and another six attacks near Bilohorivka in Luhansk region, where the enemy tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled five attacks near Bohdanivka, Ivanivske and Klishchiivka in Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical situation.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled five attacks near Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka and nine more attacks south of Severne, Pervomaiske and Nevelske in Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to break through the Ukrainian troops' defenses.
In the Maryinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Heorhiivka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the occupants tried unsuccessfully to improve the tactical situation three times.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, our defenders repelled four attacks west of Verbove and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to regain their lost ground.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa Joint Forces Operation Center in the Kherson direction, the enemy shelled the regional center of Kherson region and the areas of Beryslav and Novotyahynka in Kherson region.
Ukrainian Armed Forces offensive
The enemy does not abandon its intention to drive our units out of their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro. Thus, the enemy made six unsuccessful assaults on our troops' positions.
Russian losses
Over the course of the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck nine areas where enemy personnel, weapons, and military equipment were concentrated.
Missile troops destroyed one control center, three artillery pieces, and one enemy air defense system.
