Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 18

Ukrainian forces continue their efforts to expand the foothold in the Kherson region and deter the enemy in the Donetsk region. Over the past day, there have been 78 combat clashes, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
The enemy carried out 9 missile and 128 air strikes, and conducted 77 artillery shelling attacks from multiple launch rocket systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas. Unfortunately, there are casualties among the civilian population due to Russian terrorist attacks. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have suffered destruction and damage.
During the night, Russian occupiers launched another aerial strike, using 33 Shahed-136/131 combat drones. Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 22 enemy drones.
Aerial strikes targeted the following locations: Fedorivka, Vovchansk, Tabaivka, Pishchane in the Kharkiv region; Serebrianske Forestry, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region; Terny, Holubivka, Serebrianka, Avdiivka, Kostiantynivka, Novomykhailivka, Vodyane, Zelene Pole in the Donetsk region; Novodarivka, Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region; Chervonyi Mayak, Zmiivka, Tiahynka in the Kherson region.
Over 130 populated areas in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions came under artillery fire.
Situation at the frontlines
In the area of responsibility of the Operational and strategic grouping of troops North in the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains unchanged without significant changes.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the adversary maintains military presence in border areas, engages in active sabotage activities to prevent the movement of our troops to critical directions, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border in the Belgorod region.
In the area of responsibility of the Operational and strategic grouping of troops Khortytsia in the Kupiansk direction, our defenders repelled 6 enemy attacks near Synkivka in the Kharkiv region.
In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 13 attacks by occupiers in the areas of Terniv and Yampolivka in the Donetsk region and another 5 attacks near Makiivka and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, our troops repelled 8 enemy attacks near Hryhorivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region.
In the area of responsibility of the Operational and strategic grouping of troops Tavria in the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the enemy, who persistently attempts to encircle Avdiivka. Our soldiers resiliently maintain their defense, inflicting significant losses on the aggressors.
Over the past day, the Defense Forces repelled 13 enemy attacks in the areas of Novokalynove, Novobakhmutivka, and Avdiivka, as well as another 14 attacks near Severne, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to deter the enemy in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Maryinka, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where 10 attacks were repelled.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, our defenders repelled an enemy attack north of Novodonetsk in the Donetsk region.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the enemy did not engage in offensive (assault) actions.
In the area of responsibility of the Operational and strategic grouping of troops Odesa in the Kherson direction, the Defense Forces continue their efforts to expand the foothold. Despite significant losses, the enemy persists in attempting to dislodge our units from their positions. Over the past day, the adversary carried out 6 unsuccessful assaults on the positions of our forces.
Enemy losses
At the same time, Ukrainian forces continue active operations to inflict losses on the occupying forces in personnel and equipment, wearing down the enemy along the entire front line.
Over the past day, the Defense Forces aviation conducted strikes on 7 concentration areas of enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment, targeting 1 command post, and engaging 5 air defense missile systems. Additionally, Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed one guided aviation missile Kh-59.
Rocket troops units successfully targeted 2 command posts, 1 concentration area of enemy personnel, 3 radar stations, 2 air defense systems, 2 artillery units, and 2 enemy ammunition depots.
