Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 16

Russian shelling

Over the past day, there were 94 military clashes. The enemy conducted a total of 1 missile and 68 air strikes, as well as 78 shelling attacks from rocket artillery on the positions of our troops and populated areas.

Due to Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have suffered destruction and damage.

Aviation strikes targeted:

Vesele, Berestove in Kharkiv region;

Novoliubivka, Serebrianske Forestry Area in Luhansk region;

Terni, Yampolivka, Bohdanivka, Avdiivka, Oleksandrivka, Novomykhailivka, Vodiane in Donetsk region;

Novodariivka in Zaporizhzhia region;

Zmiivka, Novoberyslav, Berislav in Kherson region.

Over 110 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions have come under artillery fire.

Frontline situation

In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains largely unchanged.

In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the adversary maintains military presence in border areas, conducts active sabotage activities to prevent the redeployment of our forces to critical directions, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border in the Belgorod region.

In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 2 enemy attacks near Synkivka in the Kharkiv region.

In the Lyman direction, our defenders repelled 13 enemy attacks near Terniv, Yampolivka, Torske in the Donetsk region, and another 19 in the areas of Serebrianske Forestry area, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, as well as Hryhorivka, Verkhniokamianske, and Vesele in the Donetsk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, our soldiers repelled 7 enemy attacks near Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders continue to restrain the enemy, who does not cease attempts to encircle Avdiivka. Our soldiers steadfastly maintain their defense, inflicting significant losses on the occupiers.

The Defense Forces repelled 18 attacks by invaders in the areas of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka, and another 16 attacks near Severne, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.

In the Maryinka direction, our defenders continue to restrain the enemy in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where 12 attacks were repelled.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not engage in offensive (assault) actions.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repelled 3 enemy attacks west of Verbove and Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region.

On the Kherson direction, Ukrainian Forces continue efforts to expand the foothold. Despite significant losses, the enemy persists in attempting to dislodge our units from occupied positions. During the past day, the enemy made 1 unsuccessful attempt to storm our troops' positions.

At the same time, Ukrainian Forces continue actively inflicting losses on the occupation forces in personnel and equipment, wearing down the enemy along the entire front line.

Enemy losses

During the past day, the Defense Forces aviation conducted strikes on 22 areas of enemy personnel, armaments, and military equipment, as well as 1 air defense missile system.

The missile forces units targeted 3 areas of enemy personnel concentration, 8 artillery units, 1 air defense system, and 2 enemy radar stations.

The total number of losses in the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion is reported to be 370,980 military personnel.
