Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 12

Russian occupiers continue their attempts to drive Ukrainian defenders from the left bank of the Dnipro. They have carried out eight unsuccessful assaults, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook.
Russian attacks
During the day, 68 combat clashes took place. In total, the enemy delivered 2 missiles and 43 aviation strikes, conducting 25 shelling attacks from reactive multiple-launch rocket systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas.
As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have suffered destruction and damage.
Frontlines situation
On the Volyn and Polissia fronts, the operational situation remains without significant changes. There are no signs of the formation of attacking groups. Identified units of the Belarusian armed forces are performing tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske fronts, the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine.
The enemy carried out an airstrike in the area of Vovchansk, the Kharkiv region. Over 30 populated areas, including Sosnivka, Karpovychi, Semenivka, Hremiach of the Chernihiv region; Marchykha Buda, Iskryskivshchyna, Basyvka, Pokrovka, Riasne, Velyka Pysarivka of the Sumy region; Huriiv Kozachok, Udy, Zybune, Budarky, Dvorichanske of the Kharkiv region, were shelled by artillery and mortar fire.
On the Kupiansk front, the Defense Forces repelled 6 attacks near Synkivka, the Kharkiv region, where the enemy tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian troops.
The enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of populated settlements Synkivka, Ivanivka, and Kharkiv region. Around 10 populated areas, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestove of the Kharkiv region, were shelled by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Lyman front, our defenders repelled 4 attacks near Makiivka, the Luhansk region, and Hryhorivka, the Donetsk region, where the enemy tried to improve tactical positions.
Airstrikes were carried out in the areas of populated settlements Novoiehorivka, the Luhansk region, and Zelena Dolyna, Kolodiazhne, the Donetsk region. Over 15 populated areas, including Nevske, Bilotserkivka, the Luhansk region, and Torske, Serebrianka, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, Rozdolivka, the Donetsk region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Bakhmut front, the Defense Forces repelled 4 enemy attacks near Andriivka and Klishiivka, the Donetsk region.
The enemy carried out an airstrike in the area of Bohdanivka, the Donetsk region. Over 10 populated areas, including Vasiukivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishiivka, Andriivka, New York, the Donetsk region, were under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Avdiivka front, our defenders repelled 4 enemy attacks near Avdiivka and another 16 attacks near Pervomaiske and Nevelske, the Donetsk region.
The enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of populated settlements Oleksandropil, Novobakhmutivka, and Avdiivka, the Donetsk region. Around 15 populated areas, including Novobakhmutivka, Berdychiv, Stepyne, Avdiivka, Pervomaiske, the Donetsk region, were under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
On the Maryinka front, the Defense Forces continue to restrain the enemy in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Maryinka, and Novomykhailivka, the Donetsk region. Here, with the support of aviation, the occupiers attempted 15 times to break through the defense of our troops.
Populated areas such as Krasnohorivka, Kurakhove, Heorhiivka, Pobieda, Novomykhailivka, Katerynivka, came under artillery and mortar fire.
On the Shakhtarsk front, the Defense Forces repelled 3 enemy attacks south of Zolota Nyva and west of Staromaiorske, the Donetsk region.
Over 10 populated areas, including Vuhledar, Staromaiorske, Rivnopil, the Donetsk region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Zaporizhzhia front, our defenders repelled 5 attacks in the area of Robotyne, the Zaporizhzhia region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to restore the lost position.
Around 20 populated areas, including Zaliznychne, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, Novoandriivka, the Zaporizhzhia region, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
On the Kherson front, enemy artillery shelling targeted Kherson, Zolota Balka, Tyahynka, and Ivanivka of the Kherson region, as well as Dmytrivka, Ivanivka, and Yaselka of the Mykolaiv region.
Situation on the left bank of the Dnipro River
The enemy persists in its intention to dislodge our units from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro. Over the past day, the enemy conducted 8 unsuccessful assault operations. Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold their positions and inflict significant losses on the enemy.
Ukrainian Armed Forces strikes
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces targeted the concentration areas of personnel, weaponry, and military equipment in 21 locations, as well as 4 enemy anti-aircraft missile complexes.
Units of the missile forces delivered strikes on 6 concentration areas of personnel, weaponry, and military equipment, 1 command post, 1 artillery system, 2 anti-aircraft defense systems, 1 ammunition depot, and 1 enemy radar station.
