Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 6

The Russian invaders made 18 unsuccessful assaults on the positions of Ukrainian troops on the left bank of the Dnipro River and suffered losses, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult. Within the last day, 27 combat engagements took place.
In total, the enemy launched eight missile and 55 air strikes, and fired 23 times from multiple rocket launchers at Ukrainian troop positions and populated areas.
Russian terrorist attacks resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population. Private residential and apartment buildings, as well as other civilian infrastructure, were destroyed and damaged.
Situation at the frontline
The situation in the Volyn and Polissia directions remained unchanged. No signs of the formation of enemy offensive groups were detected. Designated units of the Belarusian armed forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shells populated areas from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. The enemy conducted air strikes in the areas of Oleksandrivka, Vovchansk, Prykolotne, and Chuhunivka in the Kharkiv region.
About 15 localities came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Kliusy, Yeline, Popivka in Chernihiv region; Znob-Novgorodske, Iskryskivshchyna, Myropilske, Grabovske, Popivka, Ponomarenky in Sumy region; Chervona Zorya, Kozacha Lopan, Lukiantsi, Vovchansk, Bochkove, Budarky in Kharkiv region.
In the Kupiansk direction, the Defense Forces repelled three enemy attacks in the areas of Synkivka, Petropavlivka, and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical situation. The enemy also launched an air strike near Tabaivka, Kharkiv region. About 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region.
The enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions in the Lyman direction. The enemy conducted air strikes in the area of Serebryanske forestry in Luhansk region and the areas of Terny and Spirne in Donetsk region. More than 10 localities suffered from enemy artillery and mortar attacks, including Nevske and Bilohorivka in Luhansk region and Torske, Serebryanka, Verkhnekamianske, Spirne, and Rozdolivka in Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack near Klishchiivka. The enemy launched an air strike near the village of New York. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire, including Vasyukivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, and New York in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled five enemy attacks in the areas of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka and another 9 attacks in the areas of Pervomayske and Nevelske in Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to improve the tactical situation. The enemy also conducted an air strike near the town of Oleksandropil in Donetsk region. About 10 localities, including Berdychi, Stepove, Lastochkine, Avdiivka, and Pervomayske, came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Maryinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Maryinka and Novomykhailivka, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the defense of our troops 5 times. Such settlements of the Donetsk region as Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, and Kostiantynivka came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions. The enemy conducted an air strike near the settlement of Staromayorske. More than 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire, including Vuhledar, Urozhayne, Staromayorske, and Rivnopil in Donetsk region.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa separate military unit in the Kherson direction, Tyahyntsi, Kherson, Oleksandrivka in Kherson region, and Kutsurub and Ochakiv in Mykolaiv region were subjected to enemy artillery fire.
Situation on the left bank of the Dnipro River
The enemy does not abandon its intention to drive Ukrainian units out of their footholds on the left bank of the Dnipro River. Thus, during the day, the enemy carried out 18 unsuccessful assaults on the positions of our troops, but Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold their positions and inflict significant losses on the enemy.
Russian losses
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck 19 areas where enemy personnel were concentrated.
Missile units destroyed one control center, one ammunition depot, one artillery unit, one air defense radar, and one enemy "Tor" missile system.
